Healthcare Support Worker - Specialist Stroke Unit

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Sub-Acute Stroke Rehab Unit (SSARU) at South Bristol Community Hospital (SBCH). We are recruiting a range of permanent roles for our multi-disciplinary team of therapists, registered nurses and support workers, as part of plans to improve stroke care regionally.

Our SSARU meets the needs of people who are unable to return home immediately after a hospital stay as they need specialist rehabilitation following their stroke. The unit consists of 30 beds at South Bristol Community Hospital, which provides a safe environment where individuals who are medically stable can receive rehabilitation assessment, along with focused therapy and support from our multidisciplinary team, to support independence before they return home. Once the person arrives home, their stroke care is handed over to our Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS) at Home team.

Your role will provide support to the nursing team, collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and contribute positively to the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care centred around the core principles of recovery and stroke rehabilitation and the patients wishes.

If you want to build a career within a community healthcare provider with lots of development opportunities, Sirona is a great place to do this!

Interviews will be held on 31st January 2024 as part of the assessment day which will include a meet and greet and skills test.

Main duties of the job

As a Support Worker, you will work as part of a multi professional team to support the registered nursing and allied healthcare professionals in delivering clinical and therapeutic care to service users within the SSARU unit setting.

You will contribute to the holistic assessment of service users by assisting clinical staff with patients referred to the SSARU unit. Following prescribed aspects of care, supervising patients with personal and domestic living activities, adaptions of mobility aids and the provision and fitting of basic aids.

It is essential that you communicate effectively with patients and other stakeholders verbally, in writing and electronically using E-mail. This includes writing clinical records in line with the Sirona care & health Documentation Policy

You will need to identify risks and act accordingly to minimise risk to self, service users and colleagues in line with Organisational policy and procedures.
