Job summary

The Children's Speech and Language Therapy Team is excited to advertise for a number of Band 6 positions across our Early Years and School Aged services in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

We are a friendly and supportive team that deliver a variety of clinical Speech and Language Therapy Services across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We offer regular training opportunities to our staff, a buddy system for new starters, regular line management, whole team and smaller team meetings. A large and supportive team means that there is plenty of opportunity for development and progression internally.

Main duties of the job

Due to some exciting new developments we have a mixture of Band 6 sessions available, both permanent and fixed term. We are looking for Speech and Language Therapists with appropriate experience who would like part or full time hours in any of the following:

Early Years "SPACE" project - an exciting new service across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire offering communication support for EY children and families awaiting an autism assessment

EY Universal Services across BNSSG including providing communication training for EY settings and answering our EY Telephone Advice Line

Specialist Language resource base in North Bristol - providing specialist speech and language support to children with Developmental Language Disorder

Special Schools in Bristol - providing specialist communication and dysphagia support to children with complex needs and physical disabilities

Autism diagnostic service as part of the multi disciplinary Autism Hub team

Outreach Speech and Language Therapy for children with autism in mainstream schools across Bristol

Early Years Complex Needs across BNSSG - including dysphagia caseload

Providing enhanced SLT at mainstream primary and secondary schools across BNSSG through an education commissioned contract

  • Post qualification dysphagia competencies

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience of working as a speech and language therapist in the setting applied for
  • Sound understanding of the SEND code of Practice Post-qualification
  • Experience of working with children with needs across a range of core areas relevant to the post e.g. neurology, learning disabilities, outpatients, community, complex needs, Autism, DLD
  • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner e.g., caseload management, prioritising cases, effective organisation and time management skills
  • Experience of working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)

Desirable

  • Experience of providing specialist support to children with complex motor and / or communication needs
  • Experience of providing specialist support to children with eating and drinking difficulties
  • Experience of working in universal services / providing training
