Job summary

Do you want to join a dynamic and supportive Child Psychology team?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Assistant Clinical Psychologist to work alongside one of our Senior Clinical Psychologists in piloting a new psychological service for vulnerable and 'at risk' partners of teenage mum's open to the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) in Bristol.

The post holder will be passionate about working with young fathers/care givers, who have often experienced multiple adverse experiences in their own childhood.

The post-holder's base will be Osprey Court (BS14 0BB), and regular travel will be required to visit the identified partners of teenage mums open to FNP across Bristol. This post is available for 22.5 hours per week, and there will be some flexibility in working pattern. Additional AP hours may become available in the Lifetime psychology team (for children with life limiting conditions).

This is a great opportunity to learn lots about early intervention, assertive outreach, engagement, peri-natal mental health and parent-infant interaction.

The Heads of Psychology are committed to a compassionate, inclusive, nurturing and psychologically safe working environment. We value our team members, their development and their wellbeing.

Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss, by contacting Dr Sam Waldron, Joint Head of Child Psychology on sam.waldron@nhs.net or 07464 521147. We would love to hear from you

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be embedded within the FNP team and will be confident working with families with known safeguarding concerns. You will play a key role in co-designing and delivering a new service for vulnerable partners of teenage mums open to FNP, with a focus on engaging and supporting their role in being a young parent/care giver. Clinical work will include systemic and cognitive-behavioural approaches, under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Psychologist.

You will provide assessment, formulation and intervention - supporting the adjustment to their new role as a young parent. The role will include managing a caseload under appropriate supervision, and also helping to evaluate the effectiveness of this 18 month pilot in improving outcomes for young children. You will also develop some enhanced advice and signposting support as part of the pilot.

There will be opportunities for skills training, literature reviews, service evaluation and other related tasks. Duties will be within the scope appropriate to level of training and competence.

You will be part of the larger Community Children's Psychological Service, which currently includes Clinical Psychologists, a Family Therapist, Assistant Psychologists, and trainee Clinical Psychologists on placement. You can also join the local Assistant Psychologist peer support group, led by CAMHS.
