Job summary
Are you an experienced Stroke Specialist Speech and Language therapist looking for a new challenge, including opportunities to building on existing operational and clinical skills?
This exciting role for a Speech and Language Clinical Lead is working in the Sub-Acute Stroke Rehab Unit (SSARU) to work alongside our other clinical lead therapists and team of speech and language therapists to support the development of our SSARU and to drive excellence in our service.
The unit consists of 30 beds at South Bristol Community Hospital, which provides an environment where individuals who are medically stable can receive rehabilitation assessment, along with focused therapy and support from our multidisciplinary team, to develop independence before they return home.
The role has both an operational and clinical responsibility and involves service development as well as providing high quality and specialist Speech and Language Therapy intervention.

Main duties of the job
To provide specialised Speech and Language therapy assessments and implement holistic, patient-centred treatment programmes for people after stroke working alongside the rest of the MDT.
To provide stroke specific advice and support to other staff working on the SSARU and wider stroke service as necessary.
To hold a highly specialist clinical caseload including independent management of people after stroke with complex presentation.
Line management responsibility to provide leadership, operational support and development and supervision of the multi-disciplinary workforce.
To promote a positive approach to change to facilitate the development of stroke services and in particular the SSARU.
To develop key working relationships with Speech and Language teams across the pathway including the acute HASU and ASU services and the ICSS at home service to deliver a seamless therapy pathway for service users
Work in partnership with the wider multi-disciplinary team including Primary and Secondary Care; Health and Social care; Voluntary Agencies and others according to patient needs
Take responsibility for own personal and professional development ensuring that supervision is received on a regular basis.
To demonstrate ability to support patients to self-manage their long-term condition.
