Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Sub-Acute Stroke Rehab Unit (SSARU) at South Bristol Community Hospital (SBCH)!
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will provide support and compassionate care centred around the core principles of recovery and stroke rehabilitation and the patients wishes.
Our SSARU meets the needs of people who are unable to return home immediately after a hospital stay as they need specialist rehabilitation following their stroke.
The unit consists of 30 beds at South Bristol Community Hospital. The team provides a safe environment where individuals who are medically stable can receive rehabilitation assessment, along with focused therapy and support from our multidisciplinary team, to support independence before they return home.
We have multiple posts available along with full or part time hours.
Main duties of the job
Work as part of a multi professional team to support the registered nursing and allied healthcare professionals in delivering clinical and therapeutic care to service users within the SSARU unit setting.
Will carry out extended roles once trained and competent to do so; examples of this may include:
- Venepuncture
- Administration of insulin
- Administration of influenza vaccinations
- Wound care
- Administration of Clexane
- ECG
Contribute to the holistic assessment of service users by assisting clinical staff in the assessment and treatment of patients referred to the SSARU unit
Deliver clinical care delegated by the registered healthcare professional, in accordance with an agreed person-centred plan of care
Escalate any changes in patient presentation or concerns you have to a more senior member of your team
Provide and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all patients and carers and seek further advice from trained staff if an emergency situation should arise
To communicate effectively with patients and other stakeholders verbally, in writing and electronically using E-mail
Contribute to the movement and handling of individuals to maximise their comfort and safety
Identify risks and act accordingly to minimise risk to self, service users and colleagues in line with Organisational policy and procedures
