Job summary

We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and innovative experienced nurses to join our team. We are a small team of nurses who work together to ensure the health of children in care is provided for those children who are looked after by the local areas or living in our area from other areas within the UK. The Children in Care Team are looking to recruit experienced nurses in this clinical specialty who are enthusiastic, hardworking people with significant experience of working with children and care to join a very friendly and supportive team. We have full and part time roles which will be covering the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) areas.. We are looking for someone who can work Monday to Friday flexibly between 8.30am and 7pm and fit around the children and young people.

Main duties of the job

To carry out Children in Care Review health Assessments in accordance with Children Act 1989 and Department of health guidance 2002. This will necessitate working in home environments and other non-clinic settings.

Ensure that planning for Health is documented on Health Care action Plans. Promote the multi professional/agency use of Health Care Action Plans

Develop and undertake age-appropriate health promotion advice.

Make appropriate referrals to address the needs identified at assessment.

Ensure the health of Children in Care is positively promoted, encouraged and supported, acting as a resource providing health advice to children, carers, health and social care professionals.

To work as an autonomous practitioner adhering to the lone worker policy

To demonstrate that all work adheres to agreed quality standards is clearly planned (based on available evidence) and evaluated so that effectiveness and outcomes can be reported upon, and good practice disseminated.

To develop collaborative working relationships with social services and health in order that the health needs (including CAMHS) children in care can be accurately and regularly identified.

Essential

  • Holds recognised qualification in first level registered nursing as recognised by the NMC
  • Safeguarding Children Training at Level 3 (Intercollegiate Framework)
  • Full UK driving license with access to vehicle

Desirable

  • SCPHN qualification
  • Mental health course

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in children and young peoples nursing/health field
  • Experience of Developing relationships with external agencies and organisations.
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries within health or with CYPS (Child social care and Education services).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the statutory responsibilities for children in care
  • Familiar with SDQ, ASQ
  • Public Health Nursing training or experience
  • Mental Health training or experience
  • This role requires the successful applicant to be mobile, visiting several locations across a wide geographical area so the post holder must hold a valid UK driving license and have access to an appropriate means of transport to undertake the job effectively.
