The Childrens
Community Psychology Service is recruiting to a fixed term post
to join our Community Paediatric and Lifetime Psychology services.We
would consider appointing at band 7 for someone with the relevant experience
and skills.
This role will
be 0.6 WTE in the Community Paediatric Psychology service, and 0.2 WTE in the
Lifetime Psychology service.
These services
offer psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to children (and
their families) living with a variety of complex disabilities and
life-limiting/threatening conditions. This is an exciting opportunity for a
dynamic and innovative Clinical Psychologist to make a real difference to the
lives of this population.

You will be part of a larger Community Childrens Psychology Service that includes Clinical Psychologists working in Autism, Community
Paediatrics and Lifetime. This is a newly formed and expanding service, we
anticipate there will be lots of opportunities to support in its development.
We hope the service will expand into new areas such as infant mental health, school nursing and staff wellbeing.
Main duties of the job
The postholder
will provide assessment, formulation and intervention for children of all ages
struggling with emotional distress alongside their complex disability/needs.
The postholder will also support parents/carers struggling to adjust to,
understand and manage the emotional impact of caring for the childs complex
needs. This is a large part of the role, and can include trauma and loss work. Supporting
the wider system around the child is also key.
Systemic and
CBT approaches (including 3rd wave) are most commonly used, and the
postholder will be working with a variety of emotional distress presentations.
The post holder
will help in trialling some group interventions (e.g., the Tree of Life and
Sibling groups), and working collaboratively with the wider MDT.
This post would
suit someone who enjoys working autonomously, and also in teams, managing their
own caseload/waiting list, and triaging referrals for their own localities.
This is an
exciting opportunity to represent Psychology within multi-disciplinary
community child health teams, and become emersed in child development and early
intervention.
The post holder
will need to be skilled in adapting their approach and communication to meet
the needs of a diverse population.
Traveling
between clinical bases and visiting families and schools will be required.
