Job summary

Caterham Dene Community Hospital is a 28 bedded ward providing care, physical rehabilitation for mainly frail older adults following an episode of acute illness or injury.

We are seeking an additional ward sister who can provide visible leadership and inspire, encourage and further develop our team of nurses and health care assistants.

As a senior nurse you will participate in the co-ordination of admissions and discharges, lead the nursing team, and participate in caring for patients undergoing a programme of rehabilitation.

This is an opportunity to work with a dedicated multidisciplinary team of nurses and therapists who place the patient at the centre of care, to provide a high-quality service.

If you have current and relevant experience and a desire to improve the patients experience by ensuring that the highest standards of evidence based clinical care are delivered with compassion, then this varied and rewarding role is for you.

The shift pattern is 5/7 days per week between 7am and 21.30 and consists of 7.5-hour and 11.5-hour shifts.

Main duties of the job

  • Team leadership.
  • Line management of junior staff.
  • Co-ordination of admissions and discharges working with system partners.
  • The delivery of evidence-based nursing care.
  • Supporting junior nursing staff to deliver evidence-based nursing care.
  • Mentoring student nurses and providing preceptorship and support to newly qualified registered nurses and those new in post.
  • Ensuring robust systems to promote patient safety and wellbeing.
  • Resource management and coordinating the patient pathway.
  • Leading and participating in quality initiatives, service development, and improvement.
  • Staff wellbeing, training, and performance.
