Job summary

Caterham Dene Hospital is a community hospital which provides health care services to the local community and surrounding areas.

The Caterham Minor Injury unit (MIU) provides a minor injury and minor illness service for the residents of Caterham and the surrounding areas.

The successful applicant will be responsible for booking in and making appointments for those patients attending the MIU and Out of Hours GP service, helping with any enquiries that arise and dealing with telephone calls into the hospital.

Main duties of the job

Acting as the first point of contact at the Minor Injury Unit and the hospital, the successful candidate will be welcoming, approachable and friendly.They will have a calm, sensitive and caring manner and will be able to act swiftly when under pressure.

Using First Communitys electronic clinical record keeping systemto input and update patient data, retrieve demographic details and make referrals, you will have excellent computer literacy skills (software training will be provided).

Working as a member of the administrative team supporting the MIU team, you will need to be highly motivated, have excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise your workload and complete a variety of administrative tasks within deadlines.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent team working skills and bevery flexibleto the needs of the service. In addition your duties will include covering our reception, and deputising for the Administration Manager when required

The Minor Injury Unit (MIU) Administrator/Ward Clerk is responsible for providing a first class front line reception service to the MIU and Ward; delivering a high standard of customer care to a wide range of client groups, including the multi-disciplinary team, patients, their relatives and carers. They play a proactive role in collecting, investigating, verifying and recording a high standard of patient demographic and treatment data.

By undertaking effective forward planning to ensure that the administrative needs of the service are met, they must carry out on a range of effective administration processes to support the delivery of high-quality patient care. These duties do not require direct supervision on a day-to-day basis. The MIU Administrator/Ward Clerk is responsible for the management and prioritisation of their own workload.

The MIU Administrator will work long days and short days between 08.00 and 20.00 and the rota includes bank holidays and weekend shifts.

The Ward Clerk will work early and late shifts to cover from 08.00 to 18.30 and the rota includes Bank holidays and occasional weekend shifts.
