Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, highly motivated and
enthusiastic musculoskeletal physiotherapist to join the Musculoskeletal ICAT
service. This would ideally be someone already in an AP post but may be an
experienced Band 7 looking to develop their career.

Main duties of the job
Responsible for
the management of patients within the Musculoskeletal Triage service, acting as
a gatekeeper for orthopaedic services. Responsible for the
electronic triage of referrals, assessment and treatment of a spinal caseload,
including complex conditions. Expected to work outside the scope of usual physiotherapy practice for
example requesting imaging and blood tests and prescribing. The management of
patients will include referral for conservative management, education and
advice, referral to secondary care orthopaedics, rheumatology and pain
management. They will provide advice and
support to other ICATs clinicians and physiotherapy staff, as well as
contributing to the supervision and support of the musculoskeletal physiotherapy
team, including a large team of FCPs. Support of the physiotherapy team will
include leading combined clinics and group supervision sessions.
Experience as a
senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist in an outpatient setting, a team player and experienced in
supervising staff. They should have evidence of post-graduate training
including Masters level learning encompassing the four pillars of advanced
practice: clinical practice; leadership and management; education and research,
with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.
Clinics are held across the
area that First Community serves in both GP practices and First Community premises
so flexibility and access to a car is essential.

actively participate in plans for service development. To implement policy and policy changes in own
highly specialist clinical area and to set and monitor standards of practice.
To support and undertake evidence based projects, audit and research
across the sites, including recommendations for change in practice within
specialist clinical area.

Essential
- Degree/Diploma equivalent.
- Obtained or working towards post graduate course e.g. MACP, McKenzie Diploma, SOMM, MSc, Sports Medicine Diploma.
- HCPC Registration.
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent post-graduate courses relevant to the clinical field, covering the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice; leadership and management; education and research, with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.
- Foundation management training (e.g. supervision, appraisal skills).
Desirable
- Membership of appropriate special interest group.
- Advanced practice skills i.e. diploma in injection skills, competency to request x-rays (IRMER), supplementary prescribing, CASE accredited diagnostic ultrasound PgCert.
