Job responsibilities

The Post holder will work within the Childrens Continence Service supporting children with a variety of continence issues including daytime enuresis and constipation. You will work with children and families to promote childrens continence in a variety of community settings.

The role involves assisting and supporting with the identification / assessment of childrens continence needs, carrying out assigned tasks for children, young people and families and delivering evidence-based care interventions under the supervision (direct and indirect) of a registered practitioner.

Principal duties to include:

1. To contribute to assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of individual continence care interventions in a variety of community and clinic settings.

2. To complete noncomplex continence assessments with children and families

3. Work with other team members to provide advice to children and young people (CYP) and carers in relation to continence needs including assessing for suitable containment products.

4. To act as a resource and role model to others involved in continence care

5. To contribute to the development, delivery, and evaluation of the Childrens Continence Service education programme

6. To maintain accurate, clear, concise and contemporaneous records and communicate information to members of the Team as necessary.

7. To liaise with external agencies with regards to follow up and provide feedback to registered practitioners as appropriate

Analytical and judgemental skills (f3)

1. To identify and carry out a range of diagnostic/ assessment techniques to identify and respond to child/young persons continence needs in community and out-patient clinic settings as required.

2. To identify and implement a range of treatment and management techniques to meet child/young persons continence needs in a range of settings.

3. Evaluate and feedback child/young persons responses to registered practitioners.

Planning and organisational skills (f4)

1. Attend and participate in staff meetings and represent the Continence Service at other relevant meetings

Patient / client care (f6)

1. Undertake non-complex continence assessment/reassessment in community and out-patient clinic settings as required

2. To assist in identifying and implementing a range of treatment and management techniques to meet child/young persons continence needs in a range of settings.

3. To assess efficacy of continence products

4. Support and advise on continence care, within childrens community settings.

5. Undertake non-complex re-catheterisation; male and female urethral catheterisation and supra-pubic catheter changes.

6. To assist with delivery of a continence service training programme for parents and carers.
