Job summary

CSH Surrey is looking for a motivated and passionate individual to help us project the views of patients and service users within our organisation. There is currently one vacancy available to work 15 hours per month (2 days). We would like to hear from individuals who not only represent but also believe in the value of diversity in our local population in Surrey. The Patient Safety Partner is a new role to strengthen the implementation of the National Patient Safety Strategy, hinged on the principles of compassionate involvement, insight, and improvement.

Patient Safety Partners (PSPs) will be actively involved in the design of safer healthcare at all levels in the organisation. This includes roles in safety governance e.g., sitting on relevant committees to support compliance monitoring and how safety issues should be addressed and providing appropriate challenge to ensure learning and change and in the development and implementation of relevant strategies and policies. The role is to ensure that the patient voice is heard within CSH Surrey with the purpose of improving safety and quality.

The PSP should ensure that any committee/group of which they are a member considers and prioritises the service user, patient, carer, and family perspective and champions a diversity of views.

The PSP will also need to comply with relevant policies and maintain strict confidentiality in respect to discussions and information when required.

Training

There is a requirement for PSPs to be trained in patient safety when needs are identified, and training is available. Where possible and appropriate this training will be with staff. Training will be designed to meet the individual needs of the Patient Safety Partner. PSPs will also be required to participate as trainers in training for other members of staff. Mandatory training may also be required, including in one or more of the following:

  • Information governance
  • Equality and diversity
  • Safeguarding level 1

Planning and Organising

Ability to plan time to prepare for meetings and undertake any other activities required as part of the role. To attend PSP support meetings and training events.

Personal

  • Adhere to the principles of the PSP agreement.
  • Inform relevant person if unable to attend meetings or undertake any other identified activities.
  • Ability to review, digest and comprehend a range of information and opinions.
  • Willingness to listen and to question until you reach the level of information required to understand.
  • Willingness and ability to provide a voice for patients, carers and relatives and express views.

Working Relationships

  • Work as an integrated members of the corporate Patient Safety Team
  • Staff across all Trust services and levels of the organisation
  • Ability to work with and communicate to senior leadership of the organisation on matters affecting patients.

  • Working with different members of the team across the organisation.
