Our community phlebotomists work throughout North West Surrey and providing home visits to patients who are housebound. The teams covers a large geographical area so ability to travel between patients homes and surrounding is essential.

The role requires positivity and excellent communication, good organizational skills.

You will need to demonstrate integrity, initiative, flexibility and the skill to support the team, approaching your work in a coordinated way.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

To be a Community Phlebotomy your role is vital in terms of supporting peoples care through by undertaking venipuncture and collecting samples from patients in the community ensuring patients safety and personal safety through adhering to protocols, policies, procedures and relevant Health and Safety legislation at all times.

Ensure that blood samples are accurately labelled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Ensure that clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory.

You should have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills , as well as the ability to organize and prioritize your workload without direct supervision. You should be committed to delivering high quality patient care.

The postholder will need to be an experienced phlebotomist.

In addition to this, they will need to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car.

Is proficient in performing Point of Care capillary sample testing and proceed according to standard operating procedure. Is proficient in the use, maintenance and quality control procedures of the departmental equipment. Works to ensure that service performance targets are met by continually assessing priority of own work; taking into account individual needs of the patient. Is fully conversant with and works to relevant departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring that personal performance complies with ISO standards (International standards organisation). Performs telephone duties that include making and receiving calls from and to the phlebotomy unit, conveying sensitive information to other healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives. Performs additional patient monitoring ( for example but not limited to blood pressure, weight etc) in line with competancies. Provides support to junior members of staff, and encourage best practice. With appropriate training undertake cannulation of patients identified by registered professionals according to the clinical protocol. Role Responsibilities Is willing to undertake and complete a Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support via a CSH specific Learning contract. Works to achieve competencies across the repertoire of the department as appropriate. Participates in the a personal development programme and works towards identified development needs. To include attendance on mandatory training courses and subsequent updates in line with CSH policy. Communicates effectively with other staff groups both internal and external. To include healthcare professionals, transport, portering services, patients and their representatives. Provides and receives sensitive information from patients and their representatives where empathic skills are required.
