clinical professional with a passion for quality improvement and patient

The Head of Quality will be the designated Patient
Safety Specialist and will be the lead patient safety expert in the
organisation, supporting the further development of our patient safety culture
and systems, engaging directly with the executive team.
They will also
provide a visible, accessible, authoritative presence and be responsible for the functioning and oversight of the National Patient Safety
Strategy and all related processes
The post holder will also
be expected to work alongside staff to
deliver planned programmes of improvement work
to meet the patient safety agenda and healthcare standards for clinical governance at CSH. They will also work as part of a wider team to ensure patient safety and quality improvement are appropriately prioritised and considered
in the work of the organisation.

A key function of the Quality Patient Safety and
Experience team is to ensure high clinical
standards ensuring robust systems and
processes are in place to support
reporting, analysis, investigation and associated action planning to mitigate future patient harm, whilst
developing ways of working to improve patient safety across the Trust in
partnership with the patient
safety team.

Job responsibilities
To be the designated patient safety specialist for the Organisation, leading on the development and implementation of patient safety systems[GM(S1] [CE(S2] across the organisation.
Ensure identified systems and processes for delivering the Duty of Candour across the CSH Surrey are in place, to support frontline staff in working with patients and relatives involved in patient safety incidents. To champion the inclusion of patients as partners in the investigation of incidents, critically appraising compliance against regulatory requirements.
Ensure that the CSH Surrey is updated in relation to Never Events legislation and guidance, providing training and support to clinical teams in the identification, reporting and investigation of Never Events, ensuring appropriate action is taken to support continuous learning and mitigation of risk.
Provide subject matter expertise in the quality assurance of incident management, serious incident investigations and policy formation, providing guidance and support to ensure clinical teams are aware of, and work to, nationally prescribed best practice standards.
To work with senior managers across the organisation in developing a Just and Safe Systems culture across the CSH Surrey, acting in the role of facilitator and ensuring the development of After-Action Reviews as part of the support systems for teams involved in serious incidents.
The post-holder will strategically lead programmes of work, both short and long-term to ensure that learning is translated into sustained change which improves the delivery of clinical quality throughout the CSH Surrey. Oversee audits and other processes that evidence effectiveness of learning.
Supervise a programme of patient safety, quality and experience education throughout the organisation.
To be the lead contact for the organization with regards to all coroners communications, overseeing, preparation and support systems for any coroners enquiry.
To support the Medical Director in oversight of mortality and deteriorating patient review processes.
In conjunction with other senior colleagues seek to actively manage relationships with regulators, commissioners and other external agencies, and work in a co-operative manner to align the requirements of the CSH Surrey and the agencies as far as possible, avoiding duplicative or unnecessary activity which does not contribute to improving patient care.
Attend and contribute to meetings of relevant groups within the organisation.
Provide timely, high quality reports to CSH Surrey’s Board and committees, and external stakeholders, using statistical information to identify trends and themes, and providing supporting narrative which focuses reports on quality and improvement. Provide senior support to Board sub-committees as required
Lead the team to provide advanced analytical skills to understand complex data and provide clear analysis in board level reports
Draft reports on behalf of the Deputy Director of Quality and Governance for internal and external committees
Support and, where necessary, deputise for the Director in matters relating to Patient Safety.
Prepare reports and contribute to the CSH Surrey’s internal and external communications related to patient safety, quality improvement and patient experience.
Maintain strong links and awareness of activity and developments in patient safety and clinical quality improvement both nationally and internationally, and update the Deputy Director of Quality and Governance accordingly.
Contribute to the running of the department, together with other senior managers and ensure strong relationships across directorates.
