Job summary

As a Deputy Service Manager, you will work closely with the Swindon Wellbeing team providing guidance and support, as well as line management responsibilities. You will inform the future direction and development of the Swindon Wellbeing Specialist services, working closely with the Service Manager and Senior Leadership Team.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will co-lead and support the development of your team alongside the Service Manager, ensuring the delivery of recovery-focused, high-quality, safe, and person-centred care that drives meaningful outcomes for the people who use our services.

Youll play a key part in shaping the future direction of Swindon Wellbeing Services, working collaboratively with Directors and Commissioners both within the organisation and externally. With a strong focus on innovation, you will help lead the implementation of service improvements, embedding best practices and driving continuous quality enhancement.

Youll build and maintain strong, effective relationships with key referrers, including Primary Care Networks and Secondary Care Services, ensuring open, two-way engagement with stakeholders across the locality. Your understanding of local assets and resources will enable the development of holistic and flexible, place-based support structures that are responsive to the needs of the local community.

As a leader, youll ensure staff are consistently supported and developed through a blend of on-the-job coaching, regular supervision, and appraisals, proactively identifying and addressing learning and development needs to build a confident and capable team.

Produce regular outcome reports to demonstrate service effectiveness and identify gaps in provision.

Take an active role in staff recruitment, including participating in interview panels and leading the induction of new Swindon staff.

Oversee the recruitment and induction of volunteers, including participation in interview panels.

Participate in the on-call rota to provide support to staff across Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind services when required.

Attend meetings related to the Sanford House building and those relevant to commissioned contracts.

Conduct safety assessments for service areas, ensuring appropriate use of the safety assessment framework.

Investigate incidents reported by staff or service users and ensure outcomes are followed up in line with S&G Mind policies and procedures.

Manage complaints made under the Swindon Borough Council Wellbeing contract, following appropriate procedures and organisational policies.

Undertake investigations in line with relevant policies, such as complaints and HR procedures.

Ensure that risk is assessed and managed appropriately by all staff, in line with service users needs and service policies.

Ensure that all lone working arrangements are in place and consistently followed.

Act as the Safeguarding Lead for adults and children within the Swindon Wellbeing Service.

Act as the Health & Safety Officer for the Swindon Wellbeing Service.

Confidentiality

Ensure accurate and detailed records are kept and to comply with data protection procedures.

Work with colleagues to ensure effective internal systems including but not limited to maintenance of records and GDPR compliance.

Data Quality

General administrative duties to include data collection, monitoring and reporting outcomes.

  • Experience of leading and managing a dispersed team across multiple sites, including recruiting and managing performance, within the health and social care sector.
  • Knowledge of the challenges that may be faced by people experiencing mental health difficulties and familiarity with best-practice approaches and developments.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills,with experience of managing budgets.
  • A flexible approach and able to work both autonomously and as part of a team, valuing proactivity and collaboration, bringing creativity, adaptability and enthusiasm to your work.
  • An ability to travel to venues across Swindon and Gloucestershire.
