Are you passionate about advancing pharmacy practice and supporting the development of Independent Prescribers (IPs)? The NHS long-term workforce plan has highlighted the critical need for training pharmacists to become IPs, and we are looking for a dedicated individual to lead this transformative project.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new and innovative joint venture between South West London Integrated Care Board and South West London Training Hub CiC. This role is part of a pioneering project aimed at developing the pharmacy prescribing educational infrastructure to support the development of Independent Prescribers (IPs) in practice.

This post is hosted by South West London Training Hub CIC and the successful candidate will be employed by their terms and conditions. The grade and pay is equivalent to agenda for change band 8B.

Main duties of the job

You will play a pivotal role in developing the pharmacy prescribing educational infrastructure within the South West London system. Your strategic planning will be crucial in creating more Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs), establishing mentoring opportunities, and developing an infrastructure to maintain a robust pipeline of DPPs as well as maintaining databases of prescribers.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement a strategic plan for increasing the number of DPPs.

- Create and manage mentoring opportunities for aspiring IPs.

- Maintain comprehensive databases of prescribers.

- Work collaboratively with support staff to ensure the project's success.

JOB SUMMARY

The Prescribing Infrastructure Lead Pharmacist role will assist SWL Integrated Care Board (ICB) in developing the pharmacy prescribing infrastructure necessary across the system to support the development of Independent Prescribers (IPs) in practice. This will include working with internal and external stakeholders to establish a community of practice to support new and existing Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs) within South West London.

The post holder will be required to foster relationships throughout the pharmacy profession and across the pharmacy sector and with education networks from other professions related to prescribing practice.

The Prescribing infrastructure Lead Pharmacist will work with relevant stakeholders to support all pharmacy workforce sectors. This will include, but not be limited to, relevant educational leads, community pharmacy training providers, designated supervisors for foundation trainees, the SWL training hub, ICB workforce leads, and the NHS England WT&E Pharmacy London team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Professional Leadership

To work closely with the SWL ICB medicines optimisation team workforce leads to deliver the following key objectives

Develop a strategic plan for creating more Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs).

Establish mentoring opportunities and maintain databases of prescribers.

Enable more pharmacists to become IPs, with the potential to become DPPs subsequently.

Collaborate with support staff to deliver the project effectively.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Developing a plan to increase the number of DPPs with South West London

Source access to training to create more DPPs

Report on training uptake / completion for DPPs

encourage and develop prescribing mentoring models and networks

Develop a DPP database to enable aspiring pharmacists to link in with potential DPPs

Share learning and risks with ICBs across London and London WTE leads

Support organisations to develop a vision for implementing the prescribing elements of the foundation pharmacist training reforms.

Contributing to the vision of the local training and workforce development plan and to enhance patient care by providing leadership and direction with respect to the quality of education and training.

To attend and host events, to develop key networks and relationships to ensure effective local and regional engagement and responsiveness with IPs and DPPs.

To work with providers and others to support and capture IP and DPP training innovation locally and ensure national and local conversations develop best practice.

To advise stakeholders across community, primary care and hospital sectors of pharmacy on policy changes that may impact the development, funding or provision of IPs and DPPs.

Educational and Workforce Development

To provide leadership advice and support the relevant stakeholders, providers, regulatory and professional bodies in educational and workforce development elements including development and implementation of theNational Foundation Pharmacist Programme, including:

Strategic Workforce Development and Commissioning:

Understand the current landscape and need for pharmacist IPs and DPPs.

To engage with and support the development of pharmacist education and training programmes where needed to support strategic development of training to meet the national pharmacist training developments and Long-Term Workforce Plan

Work in collaboration with organisations employing pharmacists within the South West London to enable delivery of future iterations of the National Trainee Foundation Pharmacist Programme and ensure maximal uptake of Independent Prescribing and DPP courses by pharmacists.

Network development and Multi-professional working

Lead and facilitate networks to enable collaboration between designated supervisors, designated prescribing practitioners and educational programme directors, trainee representatives and other interested groups to meet the needs and support innovations in delivering prescribing initiatives.

Support and development of education and training networks including the following:

Support further development of networks of training and education colleagues across the region. This will build on existing networks.

To review how multi-professional healthcare teams interact and identify opportunities for different healthcare professions to work more effectively together through education and training, related to prescribing.

To create and promote shared learning opportunities to increase effective inter-professional working.

Quality and Safety

To work closely with other London ICB pharmacy workforce leads and the NHS England WT&E Pharmacy London team to support the development and transformation of pharmacist IP and DPP training across the region to meet national standards and direction.

To be accountable for the following responsibilities:

To attend local, regional and ICS level meetings that are relevant to Pharmacist IP development

To undertake professional development identified for the role (attendance at required training days, on-line e-learning packages, etc).

Research & Development

Locally collate information and feedback on initiatives regionally to assist in the development of future iterations of the National Training Foundation Pharmacist Programme

To undertake scoping exercises and research to inform development of pharmacist IPs and DPPs.

To develop and support evaluation processes as required for the project

Governance and Meetings

Attend relevant strategic and governance meetings within the SWL includinglocal workforce development boards.

Attend relevant Educational Networks and Events to engage with and support stakeholders and training leads.

Attend relevant SWL pharmacy workforce meetings to:
