Job summary

Are you an NHSEmergency Medical Technician (IHCD) / Associate Ambulance Practitioner interested in paid event medical work? Would you prefer event medical work to frontline overtime / bank shifts? This is the role for you.

As an Emergency Medical Technician (IHCD) / Associate Ambulance Practitioner you will be part of the patient facing medical provision at operational events attended by St. John Ambulance Cymru. You will often be the initial ambulance clinician to attend patients in the pre-hospital setting, usually working on an ambulance or rapid response vehicle. The primary expectation of this role will be to support the delivery of Paramedic Ambulance services to public events as a key member of the multidisciplinary event medical team. There may on occasion be an expectation to work independently / autonomously where appropriate in addition to working with other clinical colleagues as part of the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver emergency and pre-hospital care in a variety of settings.

Volunteering is at the core of the charity and at most events you will be assisted by St. John Ambulance Cymru volunteers. You will be required to provide support, development, and mentorship to other personnel.

Undertake a full range of clinical duties in line with your established scope of practice, working within your scope of training, JRCALC clinical practice guidelines and St. John Ambulance Cymru policy and procedures.

As appropriate: assess, manage, refer, and convey patients.

Following clinical assessment, recognise and differentiate patients who are suitable for self- care following treatment from St John under JRCALC guidelines and the scope of your training.

Recognise the need to seek senior / professional advice on the management / referral or disposition of patients that have clinical needs that cannot be met under your scope, or the scope of clinical capability at the event site / current setting of care to ensure safe clinical practice.

Where required, administer medications in line with professional scope of practice, legal frameworks and in adherence with St. John Ambulance Cymru medicines management policy.

Utilise SJAC equipment (including, but not limited to radio communications, moving and handling, and medical devices) in accordance with SJAC policy and training.

Meet the standards set out in the St. John Ambulance Cymru healthcare professionals and clinical practice policy.

Successfully undertake annual CPD revalidation in line with SJAC policy with your relevant clinical manager.

Discharge safeguarding duties under an appropriate level of training and competence as determined by internal policies and accreditation and legal frameworks.

Maintain accurate clinical records in line with St. John Ambulance Cymru policy and procedures.

Operate the organisations vehicles in accordance with the vehicle and driving policy, under both normal and emergency conditions, safely utilising exemptions where necessary, appropriate, and authorised to do so.

On commencement of duty period, check all relevant equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and ready for use, reporting any defects or issues to the relevant manager.

Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by St. John Ambulance Cymru management.

Adhere at all times to the code of conduct and expected behaviours and values of the organisation. This includes working within GDPR principles and the safeguarding of commercially sensitive information.

Ensuring minimum organisational requirements to sustain clinical practice in this role are maintained (mandatory training, DBS, medicines management, safeguarding training etc.)

  • Successful completion of an IHCD Emergency Medical Technician Qualification or FutureQuals Level 4 Diploma in Ambulance Associate Practice.   • Full UK category B and C1 driving license with no greater than 3 penalty points.
  • Valid qualification in emergency ambulance response driving or organisationally recognised equivalent.

Desirable
