Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an accredited healthcare professional (physiotherapist, doctor, specialist nurse) to join our London Clinical Services Department on a fixed term basis for maternity cover as our Pain Management Service Lead.
Main duties of the job
The Pain Management service is a specialist service that is part of the broader bio-psycho-social approach at Freedom from Torture (FfT). The Pain Management Service focuses on the assessment and management of those with persistent pain, which is limiting daily functioning, limiting quality of life, or limiting ability to engage in therapies whilst taking into consideration a clients mental health and history of trauma working alongside a clients psychological therapist.
The postholder will manage and facilitate specialist pain management assessments and interventions available to service users in our London centre whilst also providing remote oversight of our National Pain Management programme across our five treatment centres which are situated in, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham.You will take a lead role in the assessment and treatment of pain and will act in an advisory role to all of our treatment centres and to the Clinical Secretariat regarding Pain Management.
You will hold a small caseload in the centre in which you are based, (London) and you will oversee a team of volunteer physical therapists (physiotherapy, movement therapy and massage) providing direct clinical provision to survivors of torture and organized violence through individual and group interventions.

- To remotely oversee the national Pain Management Service Pathway for survivors of torture accessing treatment at FfT.
- To build effective relationships with referrers and other key partner organizations.
- To coordinate the pain management service and oversee small team of physical therapists ( physiotherapy, movement, massage) who work within the Pain Service providing direct clinical provision to survivors of torture through individual and group interventions.
- To carry out holistic assessment with young people and adult survivors of torture with persistent pain and/or musculoskeletal problems.
- To develop appropriate treatment and care plans in response to their needs and manage a small caseload in the London Centre.
To ensure a holistic approach to short- and long-term overall care and rehabilitation of pain management clients including effective working relationships with clients therapist, MDT and relevant others.
- To address relevant functional physical disability and skills deficits enabling the client in areas of self-care, personal health management, activity, education, and leisure.
- To provide specialist individual as well as group programs that are goal-oriented pain management/physical therapy interventions based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice.
- To maintain accurate and comprehensive client treatment records in line with CSP, HCPC and FfT standards of practice and to contribute to multidisciplinary reports and make information available for Audit and Evaluation purposes.
- To provide clinical supervision, training and consultation to Clinical team and Pain management team including physiotherapists and other physical therapists working with survivors of torture.
- To provide consultation and supervision to external professionals who work with survivors of torture.
- To contribute to clinical therapy reports and other clinical documents to the standard required by the Medico-Legal Reports Team.
- To provide clinical expertise to FfT clinical work and to advocacy, communications, fundraising and policy work.
- To contribute to clinical governance work and the work of the Clinical Secretariat.
- To support recruitment, training supervision and support of new volunteer physical therapists (e.g. physiotherapy, movement therapy, massage) as required.
- To work with FfT keyworkers concerning clients ongoing care including undertaking risk assessments and risk management.
- To liaise with and support Volunteer Health Assessment Doctors (London Centre) with Pain Management referrals and assessments as required.
- To comply with clinical governance protocols and implementation of good practice, including all FfT clinical policies and clinical standards.
- To practice ethically including having regard to professional boundaries and working within own areas of competence.
- To develop and deliver training (inhouse and externally) and facilitate workshops/talks on behalf of FfT as required.
