For decades, Everton Football Clubs Academy has been one of the most respected and renowned in football, and its vision to develop young players who are technically and tactically capable of playing for the Everton 1st Team or having a career in the professional game remains as focused as ever. Because of this we are now looking for an ambitious and motivated Academy Performance Psychologist to join our Academy Sports Science team at Finch Farm.
Main duties of the job
As an Academy Performance Psychologist, you will develop and deliver the Performance Psychology support program to players, parents, and coaches across the Youth Development Phase (U12s-U16s). This includes individual, group, coach and parent/guardian focussed sessions in accordance with the existing Academy Performance Psychology Strategy; as well as supporting Academy colleagues and providing critical input to the player development approach adopted within the MDT.
This is a fantastic opportunity and an exciting role; where you would be able to proactively lead a performance impacting service alongside coaches, which defines, delivers and evaluates the development and consolidation of consistent performance behaviours.

Key responsibilities as part of this role include;
- Applying the principles of performance psychology to improve performance
- Providing performance psychological support to players within the YDP, including delivery of various education sessions, individual support and coaching process
- Providing individual support to players from multidisciplinary team meeting referrals, including those currently injured
- Facilitating players understanding of the requirements of elite-level performance: what it takes to perform at the highest level and support them to use this to inform all aspects of their training and performance
- Identifying and facilitating appropriate communication methods (including workshops), to inform and educate players, parents and coaches in the effective use of psychological support and psychological skills training.
To succeed as our Academy Performance Psychologist with us here at Everton you will;
- Have an undergraduate degree in Sport Psychology or Sport and Exercise Science
- A MSc degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology
- Have eligibility to follow a HCPC approved education programme to registration as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist
