Job summary

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (Children's Nurse), Level 1, to join our team at Lagan's Foundation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for paediatric nursing and a strong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children with complex health conditions. As a Level 1 Children's Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality nursing care and support to children and their families in the community. Additionally, you will be expected to mentor student nurses and carers, providing guidance and support in their clinical development.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide comprehensive nursing care to children with complex health conditions in their homes or community settings.
  2. Perform tasks such as gastrostomy tube feeding, medication administration, tracheostomy care, and stoma care according to individualised care plans and medical protocols.
  3. Conduct thorough assessments of each child's physical, emotional, and developmental needs, and collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement appropriate care plans.
  4. Monitor vital signs, assess for signs of complications, and respond promptly to changes in the child's condition, escalating concerns as needed.
  5. Educate and support families in caring for their child's complex health needs, providing training on medical procedures, equipment use, and symptom management.
  6. Ensure the safety and comfort of children during care procedures, maintaining infection control practices and adhering to safety protocols.
  7. Document all nursing interventions, assessments, and communications accurately and comprehensively in the child's medical records.
  8. Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, therapists, and social workers, to coordinate holistic care for each child.
  9. Mentor student nurses and carers
  10. Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance clinical skills and knowledge in paediatric nursing and the care of children with complex health conditions. Note: Some of this training will be at our head office.

This is variable hours (full-time or part- time) position with Lagans Foundations specialist care team.

The job holder will provide personal care support and play to children aged 0-19 with complex health conditions who live within their own homes. You will complete a comprehensive training program, which is monitored through mentorship, observation and supervision and formal assessment to support you to gain your confidence and the professional skills and behaviours required for you to competently carry out this role.

You will be expected to work a variety of shifts in accordance with the needs of the children and their families and the charity itself.

Breadth of Responsibility:

Manage relationships and health outcomes of the children and families you work with.

Remain compliant with the policies, procedures, training, and any other requirements of the role. This may relate to any future Covid or pandemic restrictions which the organisation are required to implement.

Help to promote the work of the charity, Lagans Foundation, and offer assistance to the fundraising team, through fun ideas, attendance of events, volunteering or hosting a fundraiser.

You will show dedication to ensure positive change and outcomes key performance indicators are met.

Quality and Efficiency Responsible for delivering the highest possible care standards

Professional Competency

o Maintain up to date knowledge and professional practice through CPD

o Attend all training requested and complete by deadlines

o Attend team meetings, supervisions and observation sessions

Time Keeping Deliver hours care assigned on the rota

Working relationships Attend and engage with other team members at team meetings

Accuracy Submit visit records / documentation on completion of each visit

Administration:

Carry out all the administrative duties in the health support process such as logging visit records, accident forms, safeguarding reports, mileage claims

Accurate and timely management of documentation and reporting.

Accurate and timely attendance and logging in and out of visits as per the rota and policy.

Accurate medicine administration and reporting as per policy and training.

Feedback on risk assessment and care plans so managers can make changes effectively and in a timely manner to support other carers and keep the child safe.

Attendance of 6 weekly supervision face to face with supervisor.
