Job summary

Henshaws are looking for an Head of Care to lead the 24 hour service that provides support and care to young people from 16-25 years, with a wide range of disabilities. Additionally, supporting the Director of Education and Care in the continuous improvement of the quality of care, support and learning support offered.Responsible to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective, caring and responsive and well led service that meets or exceeds the expectations of internal and external quality assurance agents.

Main duties of the job

  • Oversee the effective management of House Managers, Assistant House Manager, and SWARs, assisting with HR processes where appropriate.
  • Promote close working relationships and effective communication with other College and Charity Wide departments ensuring the student is at the centre of everything we do.
  • Ensure that all resources are effectively managed and monitored in line with budgetary constraints, taking an active role in the overview of the resources allocated.
  • Ensure staffing of services is managed in a cost effective manner, overseeing management of rotas.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports to the Senior Leadership Team, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Trustees, as required.
  • Provide advice and support to help all staff implement safeguarding policies and procedures.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To oversee the effective management of House Managers, Assistant House Managers and SWARS, assisting with HR processes where appropriate.

2 Promote close working relationships and effective communication with other College and Charity wide departments ensuring the student is at the Centre of everything we do.

3 Contribute to College strategic planning; lead and develop initiatives to maximise the use of residential facilities to contribute to income generated targets in line with strategic objectives.

4 Ensuring that all resources are effectively managed and monitored in line with budgetary constraints, taking an active role in the overview of the resources allocated.

5 To ensure staffing of services is managed in a cost-effective manner, overseeing management of rotas.

6 Manage recruitment agency relationships and minimize temporary agency spend in line with budget requirements.

7 Work as part of the College Senior Leadership Team to deliver on the vision and strategy of the Principal and Trustee Board.

8 Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, to support the delivery of educational and therapy programmes.

9 As a senior member of the college Safeguarding Board, attend and contribute to regular meetings

10 To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of the Care Support Team adhering to SCR Requirements.

11 Prepare and present comprehensive reports to Senior Leadership Team, Executive Leadership Team, College Governing Board and Board of Trustees as required.

12 In conjunction with Registered Manager, lead the implementation of safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures across the college, promoting a culture with the safety of our students is at the heart of everything we do.

13 Provide advice and support to help all staff implement safeguarding policies and procedures.

14 Offer a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the organisation.

15 Facilitate training and knowledge sharing across Henshaws, and other providers where appropriate.

16 Adhere to and support others to uphold Henshaws Values: Inspiring, Proactive, Sharing, Compassionate, Empowering, Informed.

17 Act in an on call capacity for care managers to escalate concerns to, out of normal office hours.

18 To support the Organisational Development with appropriate induction programmes, to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and the needs of the service
