Job summary

Step 2 and 3 of the NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire service is provided in partnership by Solent Mind (step 2) and Southern Health NHS Foundation (step 3). Qualified PWPs are employed by Solent Mind to deliver support to step 2 patients.

This role involves attending the PWP training course at Southampton University whilst delivering assessments as well as evidenced-based low intensity CBT interventions for those with mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety disorders. The range of treatments you may provide would include one-to-one guided self-help via telephone & video, with the opportunity to offer face-to-face in addition to cCBT programmes, webinars, workshops and psycho-educational groups.

Main duties of the job

This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about caring for and supporting people and looking to start/further a career in mental health services.

You will need to be highly motivated and resilient to cope with the demands of working in this large, high volume service whilst balancing your own studying.

You must have recent experience of working in a mental health setting OR have relevant life experience/ transferrable skills.

Trainee PWPs will undertake the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Training course at Reading University to become a Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner whilst working full time within the NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire Service.

The purpose of the PWP role is to provide the full range of evidence-based treatment to a caseload of step 2 patients. Such as:

Step 2 cognitive behavioural therapy based self-management interventions to patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.

Support and cofacilitate the delivery of Step 2 groups and workshops across the county and through webinars, when required.

Support patients through computerised CBT and/or other Step 2 digital treatments, when required.

You will need to work on a rota basis, including occasional weekends and late shifts to meet the needs of the service.

You may also undertake GP liaison, data entry and follow up work regarding patient appointments and provide one-off workshops and presentations as and when required at a range of venues around the county and via webinars.

  • Relevant mental health experience to be eligible to enter the programme at undergraduate level
  • OR
  • Honours degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (e.g. psychology, neuroscience) to enter the programme at postgraduate level
  • Willingness and ability to undertake the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Training course at Reading University whilst working full time

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working effectively with people with mental health problems, specifically anxiety and depression
  • Experience in developing good therapeutic relationships with clients

Desirable

  • Experience of joint work, multi-agency and partnership working
  • Experience of delivering group based or computer based therapies
  • Experience of using computerised patient management systems
