Job summary

The Director of Services will provide strategic leadership of our services, working with colleagues, partners, and service users to ensure our operations are high quality, safe and respond to community needs.

You will be a strong advocate for the mental health needs of our service users and communities, able to articulate Solent Minds vision and strategic aims with our partners and commissioners, and provide internal focus to enable us to become a truly service-user-led organisation.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Services role will work alongside our 3 geographical Heads of Service(Southampton, Hampshire and Portsmouth) to provide strategic oversight, and work with partners to integrate our services into local provision to give the best outcomes for local people.

Your experience and credibility as a leader, together with your personal determination and compassion will help us in our fight to improve mental health outcomes for people across our communities.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Provide strategic leadership of a portfolio of services, providing effective line management to our Heads of Service and operational oversight to ensure cohesive, safe, and high quality services, whilst striving for continual improvement. Act as necessary as the organisational lead on safeguarding and effective implementation of the Caldicott Principles.

2. Proactively work with commissioners and partners to develop new and appropriate services to meet the needs of our services users and communities. Represent Solent Mind on senior steering groups and boards with the NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector to influence the commissioning and planning environment.

3. Be a strong advocate for the mental health needs of our service users and communities, articulating and leading on Solent Minds vision and strategic aims.

4. Work as an active part of the senior management team to recognise and respond to emerging strategic issues, and lead our response across the organisation, with partners and equally with National Mind and Local Minds.

5. Provide clear leadership across Solent Mind, working across all levels of the organisation and delivering on our values, to embed our culture, meet our strategic objectives and ensure organisational cohesion.

6. Contribute to the financial management of the organisation, reviewing financial performance and setting and monitoring budgets.

7. Report to the board of trustees and its sub committees progress against our strategic objectives.

8. Adhere to the aims, values, policies and procedures of Solent Mind, particularly safeguarding and health & safety.
