Job summary
We are currently recruiting for a Dispensary Coordinator to join our Dispensary team at Glenridding Health Centre. As well as holding dispensary responsibilities, this role also covers full medicines management support and higher level administration duties.
The hours for this role are 24 hours per week, with days/hours to be agreed.

Main duties of the job
To provide comprehensive dispensing service to the practice by undertaking the daily accurate and efficient processing of acute and repeat prescriptions for both dispensing and non-dispensing patients as authorised by prescribe in accordance with the principles of good practice. In addition to provide full medicines management support to Glenridding Health Centre, including attendance at meetings. This post will also provide higher level administration duties such as processing e-referrals and patient note summarising.

Dispensing and Processing medication
- Dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions in line with Glenridding Health Centres standard operating procedures.
- Dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions in line with Glenridding Health Centres standard operating procedures.
- Keeping up-to-date with Glenridding Health Centres standard operating procedures.
- Dispensing repeat prescription requests received by mail, electronically, in the prescription drop-box, or in person
- To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising prescriber or the doctor on duty
- Dispensing private prescriptions
- Checking colleagues dispensing
- Ensuring the Dispensary area remains clean and tidy
- Maintaining complete and accurate records for controlled drugs
- Complete end of month returns to NHSBSA to claim appropriate and accurate reimbursement for dispensing services and personally administered items
- Covering colleagues for sickness and holidays
- Handing out medication, completing back of prescriptions and collecting charges when receiving and processing.
- Collecting private charges for private prescriptions, vaccines and holiday prophylactic medication as necessary
Stock Control
- Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the telephone / wholesalers computer.
- Returning goods to wholesalers.
- Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.
- Removing out of date stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas.
- Disposal of returned unused medicines.
- Ensuring the storage and preparation areas remain safe, clean and tidy at all times and that cleaning schedules are maintained.
- Maintaining the cold chain and ensuring fridge temperature checks are completed daily.
Medicines Management
- Represent the practice at local Medicines Managers meetings and share information with clinicians and other members of the practice team as appropriate
- Hold responsibility for the processing of safety alerts received and following the Cumbria Health policy to ensure alerts are recorded, actioned and shared appropriately
- Work with the Clinical Pharmacist and prescribers to ensure practice prescribing follows NHS good practice
- Support the practice to achieve the standards required by the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)
Administration
- Summarising of patients notes
- Provide Reception cover as required
- Processing e-referrals in a timely manner, including ensuring 2 week wait process is followed for urgent referrals
