Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Eating Disorder Nurse to join the PEDS team.

PEDS has evolved over the years from a small charity run by two eating disorder volunteer Nurses into a regional organisation that serves both primary and secondary organisations, including third sector and statutory services. PEDS has partnership contracts with the local NHS ICB, the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University and the local Council.

Services currently offered include assessment and 1:1 support, peer support group, carers support group and a range of education/training programmes. We have a team of 14 employed staff plus dedicated volunteers, many of whom have lived experience of recovery from an eating disorder. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience within our Trustee Board who bring lived experience, business experience, clinical via our GP and Nurse Trustee and Education via our two Trustees who come from teaching backgrounds.

We deliver services across the whole of Cambridgeshire and as part of our 3-year Strategy, continue to evolve, innovate and expand our services.

This role will be hybrid remote from home or in person at our centre.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the multidisciplinary team. To support patients accessing Eating Disorder services whilst providing appropriate information, advising or referring as per the agreed protocols and liaising with GPs, primary care, education and statutory services where necessary. To provide treatment in line with NICE recommended treatments for eating disorders

Our mission is to provide nurse led, personalised eating disorder support with the aim being to help the sufferer to manage their eating disorder and to build a life to get well for which is not controlled by their illness. This includes equipping carers and families with the tools to be able to support their loved ones.

Whilst we understand the importance of Hope, we also acknowledge the realities of what we are up against when it comes to fighting eating disorders. In sharing our determination, passion and skills, we will help strengthen our sufferers, their loved ones and professionals we work alongside, in winning the battle against eating disorders.

b.To provide appropriate signposting to the relevant clinician or external organisation whilst ensuring that the patient receives appropriate ongoing care

c.To promote high standards of patient care by the application of a systematic triage approach and undertake comprehensive holistic assessments of person-centred care needs

d.To maintain clear, concise and accurate documentation within the systems provided

e.To ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed promptly and in a safe manner

f.To maintain effective communication within the PEDS team

g.To maintain effective communication with multidisciplinary teams to the benefit of the patient

h.To communicate complex and sensitive information concerning a patients medical condition effectively to patients/carers, recognising that sometimes there are barriers to understanding

i.To support and advise patients on the promotion of health, prevention of ill health and the self-management of their health within their limitations

j.To recognise situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the individual and act on the findings

k.To ensure that care given is supported by the best available evidence and local policies and procedures

l.To deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

m.To understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriately
