Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Lead to join the PEDS team. The post holder will provide effective leadership, overseeing clinical activity within the team and holding day-to-day clinical management responsibility for the service working alongside, our Nurses, Nutritionist and Peer Support Workers.

PEDS has evolved over the years from a small charity run by two eating disorder volunteer Nurses into a regional organisation that serves both primary and secondary organisations, including third sector and statutory services. PEDS has partnership contracts with the local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University and the local Council.

Services currently offered include assessment and 1:1 support, peer support group, carers support group and a range of education/training programmes. We have a team of 8 employed staff plus dedicated volunteers, many of whom have lived experience of recovery from an eating disorder. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience within our Trustee Board who bring lived experience, business experience, clinical via our GP and Nurse Trustee and Education via our two Trustees who come from teaching backgrounds.

We deliver services across the whole of Cambridgeshire and as part of our 3-year Strategy, continue to evolve, innovate and expand our services.

This role will be hybrid remote from home or in person at Boroughbury Medical Cente.

Main duties of the job

To provide effective leadership within Eating Disorders, overseeing clinical activity within the team and holding day-to-day clinical management responsibility for the service working alongside our nurses, nutritionist and peer support workers within PEDS.

The Postholder will be responsible for the day to day team management to ensure the smooth running of the service, including referrals, assessment, patient allocation and discharge processes. You will ensure that service access and delivery is efficient, effective, evidence based and meets the needs of the person and our community.

You will provide and oversee supervision and appraisals for staff within Band 3-6 whilst supporting our Service Manager clinically with managing and reviewing the risk register, recruitment and induction training. You will also work with the Service Manager and Service Director to review data and demographics, patient and family journeys (based on their feedback) as well as supporting with managing incidents and complaints in accordance with PEDS policies.

The post holder will work clinically in the multidisciplinary team to undertake and support the delivery of clinical interventions and at times, may hold a small caseload.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical

1. To be responsible for the coordination and management of the clinical team in providing a safe, structured and therapeutic environment for service users and their loved ones.

2. In collaboration with the Founders, Board of Trustees, Service manager and other senior colleagues within PEDS, the post holder is expected to contribute to the development and expansion of PEDS.

3. To take the lead in ensuring effective joint working with our statutory and voluntary partners and colleagues to ensure collaborative and appropriate service delivery to service users, carers and loved ones.

4. To chair the weekly Clinical Team meetings with our NHS colleagues and our internal MDT meetings.

5. To support and oversee our professional partnerships with our educational organisations such as Cambridge University, ARU and our local schools and colleges. To support our training and education team in delivering clinical teaching sessions where required.

5. Demonstrate commitment and passion to work alongside our patients and their families/ carers/ significant others, whilst ensuring their views are included in all aspects of care planning.

6.To work alongside our partners at REDCAN (Regional Eating Disorders Charities Alliance Network), leading and participating in national meetings which focus on improving eating disorder services across the country, sharing good practice and VSCE and NHS collaboration.

7. Ability to assess needs, ensuring the wishes of children, young people, adults and their families and loved ones with eating disorders are heard.

8. Shows commitment to provide consistency of care through the care delivered to patients including relapse prevention.

9. Delivers the PEDS manual in collaboration with patient need and with an individualized approach.

10. Able to make a systematic and comprehensive assessment / re-assessment of patient need, incorporating appropriate assessment tools, whilst developing and implementing shared care plans with service users.

11. Demonstrates effective skills and knowledge essential for developing risk management plans, and timely review of the risk management plan identifying opportunities for positive risk where safe to do so.

12. Respond to the needs of people sensitively with regard for age, culture, race, gender, ethnicity, social class, and disability to optimise therapeutic relationships.

13. Ensures that there is a full and comprehensive range of information regarding support options and resources available to patients and carers.

14. Has up to date knowledge of the role and responsibilities of Safeguarding within the organisation and how to escalate this to the Safeguarding lead where there are concerns.

15. Works to develop effective multidisciplinary relationships through skilled communication with our local NHS Eating Disorder colleagues, stakeholders and other VCSE partners.

16. Shows ability to effectively evaluate, coordinate and implement care plans in collaboration with the patients as an ongoing process, making recommendations for changes in the care plan.

17. Actively engages in reflection on own practice as an ongoing process and through regular clinical supervision.

18. To regularly review through audit plans, the effectiveness of PEDS service in collaboration with the Service Manager and Director to ensure action plans are put into place where action to improve services is required.
