Job summary

Commercial Audiologists function autonomously. Referrals may be made internally from NHS services or externally through advertising, word of mouth etc. They will plan, coordinate and conduct diagnostic and rehabilitative regimes, noting and acting on the need for onward referral for medical and other professional opinion as part of individual care plans They will continue to access audiological education and gain maintain a high standard of continued professional development (CPD) Commercial Audiologists will be required to be registered as a Hearing Aid Dispenser by the HCPC as per UK law on the selling and prescription of hearing aids.

Main duties of the job

To plan and implement hearing care with diagnostic and rehabilitative functions for patients within the commercial environment but potentially also the hospital and locality environments. In this grade an experienced, senior Audiologist performs work involving greater responsibility and autonomy. This includes activities, which are complex and non-routine. Supervision of other staff is expected at this level. A Commercial Audiologist will be provided specific areas of responsibility as outlined by senior team. It is expected that clinical and professional standards are maintained at all times.In conjunction with Band 6 Specialist Audiologists: Supervise the audiologist team and any departmental trainees. Liaise with senior audiological staff and other health professionals and clerical staff. Conduct commercial hearing diagnostics and rehabilitation alongside other specialist audiologists at the commercial premises and supervise junior staff completing both commercial and NHS activity at Chime Hearing Centre.

Job responsibilities

On adults and older children plan and undertake diagnostic audiological procedures unsupervised and recommend appropriate courses of action on a direct referral basis where appropriate.

Analysis, assessment and interpretation of a broad spectrum of adult diagnostic and rehabilitation, and some paediatric test results.

Providing advice on appropriate aural care regarding wax management and wax removal.

Performing appropriate wax removal with best practice procedures for aural care in mind.

Manage rehabilitative patient caseloads utilising care plans on a direct referral basis where appropriate.

Selection of adult hearing aid prescription and hearing aid systems relevant to patients individual audiological requirements, providing open and honest recommendations in line with Chimes values and HCPC guidance on ethical trading.

Ensure maximum effectiveness of hearing aid systems meeting individual patient criteria.

Where a patient requires more than your scope of practice, to notice and make appropriate onward (or internal) referrals.

To develop your own skills and knowledge by working with senior audiology staff when they take on aspects of care for patients you have seen.

Offering flexibility and a growth mindset to support the necessary changes that create excellence through innovation.

Managing your time effectively in a pressurised clinical environment.
