Job summary

Receptionists are key members of the General Practice team. From directing patients to appropriate services and booking appointments, to taking phone calls and handing out prescriptions, every day brings exciting new challenges.

Hours are flexible.

Main duties of the job

You will operate day to day duties on the computerised appointment system, receive patients and make appointments with doctors, nurses, and attached primary care staff, and answer the telephone and deal with appointments and enquiries.

You will also make appropriate remote appointment bookings into the 7 Day Enhanced Access Service, H&SH.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will be tasked with:

  • Operating day to day duties on the computerised appointment system.
  • Receiving patients and making appointments with doctors, nurses and attached primary care staff.
  • Making remote appointment bookings into the 7 day Enhanced Access Service, H&SH.
  • Answering the telephone and dealing with appointments and enquiries.
  • Accepting requests for and handing out prescriptions.
  • Registering patients for SystmOnline Services.
  • Gaining patients Data Sharing consent status re New Model of Share - SystmOne.
  • Accepting path lab samples and completing appropriate path lab forms to be sent to North Tees Pathology Laboratory. Electronic ICE requesting of pathology tests.
  • Undertaking admin duties around INR finger prick testing.
  • Recording and sending of pathology samples to North Tees Pathology Laboratory.
  • Booking Interpreters and liaising with patient
  • Setting up electronic referrals to Community Services ie, phlebotomy, District Nursing etc.
  • Opening of morning incoming internal mail, date stamping and placing in doctors trays.
  • Dealing with outgoing post external mail.
  • Dealing with cash receipts.
  • Giving out results to patients via Pathology Links after 3 pm
  • Managing personal NHS Mail Account.
  • To assist secretary with patient related queries regarding hospital appointments etc.
  • Set Filing.
  • Processing of repeat prescriptions in line with the practices repeat prescribing protocol (ETP)
  • Scanning incoming internal mail using electronic doc-ument workflow to clinicians
  • Entering data onto clinical system. Ensuring quality data input in line with current read code guidelines.
