Main duties of the job
Across East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust 2 acute hospitals Eastbourne DGH and Conquest, Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and St Michaels and St Wilfrids Hospices we are currently a team of 8 consultants, and we now have a vacancy to become 1 of 9.
This vacant post is based at St Michaels Hospice in Hastings and the initial job plan is for full time work over the Hospice and Hospital, initially leading care in the In-Patient Unit with one day a week at local Hospital (Conquest Hospital in Hastings). Those wanting to work less than full time will be welcomed, the Hospice has agreed to match NHS terms and conditions and you will also have honorary NHS contract. Full DBS check is required.

This is a new post building on vacant hours across both the Hospice and new
Consultant hours at the local NHS Trust. The post-holder will be joining an
organisation that is determined to not only support the end-of-life care needs of the
population of Hastings and Rother but also to work collaboratively with the NHS, Adult
Social Care and other hospices to ensure good end of life care in any setting.
The appointee will be a medically qualified graduate, who has completed an
appropriate programme of higher professional training and has wide general training
and experience in Palliative Medicine. Applicants to the post must hold, or be within
six months of attaining, a CCT in the specialty.
The appointee will be based at St Michael's Hospice and will work across hospital and
hospice inpatient and community settings and will provide, non-resident on-call clinical
commitment with a one in ten frequency. This is shared with neighbouring hospices,
and St Wilfrid's Hospice in Eastbourne and St Peter's James Hospice in Chailey,
East Sussex and Consultants based in Supportive and Palliative Care Team in East
Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Consultant in Palliative Medicine will be employed by the hospice and their terms
and conditions will reflect the NHS Consultant terms and conditions.
