Job description

Job responsibilities

Marie Curie is the UKs leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they're likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

Are you a caring and dedicated individual looking to make a difference? We are seeking Healthcare Assistants to join our Community Day Service Team, providing exceptional, evidence-based, person-centred care to patients in the comfort of their own homes across West Cornwall. As a vital member of our Multidisciplinary Team, you will assess and understand the personal care and support needs of patients and their loved ones, planning and delivering individualized care. Your role will be to ensure that the voices, needs, and views of those you care for are heard and respected, while also recognizing and protecting vulnerable adults and children.

In this role, you will monitor and assist in maintaining patients skin integrity and personal hygiene, conduct nutrition assessments, and attend to comfort needs to aid rest and sleep. You will also provide support with mobility, monitor vital signs, and promote and maintain a clean and tidy care environment. We are looking for kind, empathetic, and compassionate individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our patients.

Contracts -Permanent Full-time, Part-time or Bank

Hours -The current shifts are either 8:00am-14:00pm or 16:00-22:00 pm. Some of our staff combine both shifts at times to work a long day.

  • Previous experience in a similar care role and a real interest in offering exceptional end of life care
  • Current valid driving licence allowing you to drive in the UK and the use of a car insured for business use is essential
  • Time management skills
  • Experience of working with minimal/without supervision
  • Empathy and understanding of patient issues
  • A level two qualification in care is desirable but not essential, however, a willingness to learn and develop specialist skills in end of life care is essential

What's in it for you:

  • Annual leave allowance 27 days plus 8 public holidays (pro rata)
  • Competitive Policy for parental/sick Leave
