Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse with a passion for palliative and end of life care to join our Community based Team in West Devon.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role involve working in the community to provide palliative care, including managing symptoms, administering medication, and supporting patients and their families through the end-of-life process. They are responsible for creating care plans and ensuring care is person-centered. Nurses must also coordinate with other healthcare professionals to optimise patient comfort and family understanding. Additionally, they play a crucial role in advance care planning and must possess advanced communication skills to effectively support patients and their families.

Based: Home and community opportunities across West Devon.

The Marie Curie Nurse role has two key functions; the first is providing specialist overnight care and support to those living with terminal illnesses, whilst offering vital emotional support for the people important to them. You are sure to enjoy plenty of meaningful contact with the people we care for and the wider Multidisciplinary Team. It's all about creating the opportunity for the best possible quality of life and death with a responsive and proactive approach to the individuals' medical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.

This role is 50% delivering specialist care and support to patients with terminal illnesses overnight and 50% Clinical Coordination. We are looking for a motivated, experienced and enthusiastic nurse with excellent communication and assessment skills to join us at a time of exciting change and development of the service.

What we are looking for:

  • Be a UK licenced driver with access to a car and business insurance is essential
  • RN Registration Level 1
  • Experience in NHS or another relevant care setting in palliative care
  • Ability to work in a complex and stressful environment and demonstrate appropriate coping mechanisms
  • Flexibility to work across settings to support projects

Within your role delivering overnight care, you will also be a key influencer in supporting and developing our team of Marie Curie Health Care Assistants. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a quality service, contributing to a culture where we promote continuous quality improvement and professional development.

Equally important are your care coordinating responsibilities, where your assessment and prioritisation skills will be invaluable. Working alongside our dedicated coordination team, and supported by a Team of Senior Nurses, you will provide the clinical input to prioritise care based on your on the day assessment and reflecting the changing needs of the caseload. You will provide clinical support to our coordination team to prioritise a unique opportunity to create a seamless service, working in new and innovative ways to direct and prioritise patient care.

Committed to your ongoing development, you will also have the opportunity to upskill and become one of our Local Clinical Skills Trainers and/or Clinical Supervisors. Full training is provided.
