Job description

Job responsibilities

Marie Curie is the UKs leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they're likely to die from.

We believe that everyone affected by dying, death and bereavement deserves the best possible experience reflecting what is most important to them.

Marie Curie, in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth, is introducing a new service model aimed at enhancing end-of-life care, with a special focus on identifying patients who are approaching the end of their lives.

This innovative service focuses on four key areas:

  • Delivering hands-on care and emotional support to patients and their families in the Emergency Department.
  • Proactively identifying and assisting those nearing the end of life, ensuring timely transfers to their preferred place of care.
  • Offering specialised care within a community hospital setting.
  • Engaging a dedicated team of volunteers to provide companionship and practical support.

In joining Marie Curie as a Hub Coordinator, you will support the end-to-end care coordination for new and existing patients, including preparation, communication to families and input of care details to the internal systems.

You will be required to undertake general administration of the computer system, to ensure that accurate computer records are maintained for referrals, nurse allocation, cancellations, packages of care and financial data. This will also include the discussing and agreeing the allocation of Marie Curie Nurses to patients with the Senior Coordinator, managing the daily and monthly rotas of the Marie Curie nurses and making sure that the systems are up to date.

With the nature of this role, you will assume responsibility for identifying and highlighting rapid discharge and emergency referrals, which may result in interruptions to other planned tasks which will require the ability to manage and re-prioritise your workload at short notice.

What were looking for:

  • NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification (desirable)
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal and organisational skills including professional telephone manner.
  • Experience in a customer care or mediation role, including dealing with complaints in a health setting
  • Ability to attend and contribute to planned team meetings, provide statistical reports and manage rotas.
  • Self-motivated to ensure workload is properly managed, working within specified timeframes to ensure targets are met.
  • Working knowledge of windows applications Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Emails and Internet

What's in it for you:

  • Annual leave allowance 27 days plus 8 public holidays (pro rata)
  • Competitive Policy for parental/sick Leave
  • Continuous Professional development
  • Industry leading training programmes
  • Season ticket loan for travelling to and from work
  • Defined contribution schemes for Pension
  • Marie Curie Group Personal Pension Scheme
  • Loan schemes for bikes; computers and satellite navigation systems
  • Introduce a friend scheme
  • Help with childcare cost (T & Cs apply)
  • Entitled to Marie Curie Blue Light Card
  • Entitled to Benefit-Hub Discount Scheme
  • Life assurance for all employees

Marie Curie is committed to its values, which underpin our work. We take stringent steps to ensure that the people who join our organisation through employment or volunteering, are suitable for their roles and are committed to safeguarding all our people from harm. This includes our staff, volunteers and all those who use or come into contact with our services. We are dedicated to creating not just a safe place to work but also a supportive and rewarding one.
