Job summary

Our Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale are expanding our service to support more people at end of life than ever before. In light of this we are looking for Healthcare Assistants to join our well established, multi-disciplinary team to allow us to care for more patients in our IPU. Main duties of the job

Healthcare Assistants at Marie Curie provide holistic, person centred, end of life care to patients and those important to them. You will undertake a broad range of care activities as delegated by a Registered Nurse through a documented plan of care.

To join our dedicated, caring team, you'll need proven, relevant care experience, ideally within a clinical setting. An S/NVQ Level 2/3 qualification or an equivalent certificate/diploma is desirable but not essential if you are willing to work towards it. Most important is an understanding of palliative and end-of-life care empathy and compassion.

Emotional strength and the ability to work on your own are crucial, though we will of course provide excellent on-going training and support. We expect you to have a talent for forging strong empathetic relationships with all kinds of people, whilst providing palliative care. Due to the nature of the role a flexible approach including the ability to work nights and weekends.

Job responsibilities

Salary: £22,720 per annum (Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale, aligned with AFC Band 2)

Enhancements: 44% x your basic salary per hour paid for Saturdays & weekday night duty (8pm to 6am) / 88% x your basic salary per hour paid for Sundays and Public Bank Holiday

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours (Day / Night shift) Part time may be considered

Contract: Permanent

Location: Marie Curie Hospice, Bridgeman Rd, Penarth CF64 3YR
