Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our 18 bed Hospice in Newcastle, a busy specialist palliative care unit providing care for patients with life limiting illness.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a well-established multi-disciplinary team, including senior medical staff, and a variety of training and non-training junior medical staff. You will be responsible for the admission and on-going care of patients. You will receive regular clinical support from the senior medical team.

This post will be of particular interest to doctors wishing to pursue a career in palliative medicine, in general practice, oncology, care of the elderly, or other medical specialities. There will be an opportunity to gain experience in the out-patient unit.

Title: Clinical Fellow in Palliative Medicine

Salary:NHS Doctors in Training Pay Scale (Core Training equivalent) (£43,923 £55,329) per annum (dependent on experience) plus On call

Contract:Up to 10 Programmed Activities per week (40 hours) plus 1 in 6 On-call

Contract Type:Fixed Term - up to 12 months

Based:Marie Curie Newcastle Hospice

Closing date:26th September 2023

Interview date:TBC

What we are looking for:

  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Experience in Treating Primary and Secondary Malignant Disease, and symptoms in non-malignant conditions
  • Full GMC registration, a licence to practise and at least 2 years full-time postgraduate training 2 of which must have been in relevant acute specialities (or demonstration of equivalent experience and competencies)
