Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Marie Curie Hospice in West Midlands. We are recruiting a fixed term Specialty Doctor to join our established multi-professional specialist unit to provide maternity cover

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Medical Director in the provision of high-quality palliative care services at the West Midlands Hospice, primarily providing medical support for a community team and 12 bed in-patient unit.

Job Title:Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine

Contract:6 months Fixed term Maternity cover

Location:Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands

Salary:Specialty Doctor Scale £50,373 - £64,237 per annum pro rata (dependent on experience) and 5% Availability Supplement

Hours:6-7 PA (24-28 hours) with 1 in 5 on-call commitment

Anticipated Start Date:September 2023

Closing Date:6th June 2023

Interview Date: TBC

This role involves participation in training and educational activities as well as activities relating to maintaining clinical excellence within the service.

A minimum of 4 months experience in palliative medicine is essential. There will be ongoing education and supervision for the successful applicant.

  • Completion of Foundation Training Programme, or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher Medical Qualification e.g. MRCP, MRCGP
  • Diploma in Palliative Medicine

Experience

Essential

  • Full GMC registration, a licence to practice and at least 2 years full-time postgraduate training (or demonstration of equivalent experience and competencies)
  • Audit skills
  • Teaching skills
  • Counselling skills that are sensitive to patients and carers
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communications skills

  • Experience of community palliative care provision
  • Knowledge and experience of management of symptoms associated with terminal illnesses, including non-malignant conditions
  • Research interest
