Apprentice Healthcare Assistant (Nights)

Location:East of England including Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk.

Work Pattern:This role is being offered on a full-timebasis, working37.5hours per week on a rolling rota , to include weekend working.

Salary:£21,318 per annum, + enhancements, pro rata with potential earning of up to £30k after qualifying, based on an average work pattern.

As we seek to extend our end-of-life care to more people in the East of England, we are looking for people with the right values to deliver exceptional care. Previous health or social care experience is not necessary, but a commitment to learning and an interest in palliative and end of life care are essential.

Through our partnership with West Suffolk College, you will be trained and supported to fulfil your role as a paid Healthcare Assistant giving you the necessary skills and confidence to help people live their final days with dignity.

In this role, you will care for patients with end-of-life needs, normally overnight in their own home, providing critical support to them and their families. You will generally work with patients on a one-to-one basis assisting with personal care, nutrition and medications where required. You will talk with families and patients understanding their preferences, supporting with practical and emotional needs as well as providing much needed rest for family carers. You will also ensure all our systems are kept up to date with the most accurate information, helping us keep you and our patients safe, well supported and enable us to fulfil our legal and contractual responsibilities.

The ideal candidate

  • A caring and compassionate individual with some lived experience of looking after others.
  • An interest and enthusiasm to develop a career in end-of-life care.
  • A motivated learner, with the commitment and discipline to manage self-directed learning.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to build rapport and work effectively with patients, families, and professional partners.
  • The willingness to work alone overnight after initial training.
  • Good IT skills with an openness to learning our systems and processes.
  • A confident driver with a clean driving license and use of a private car.
  • Readiness to travel to West Suffolk College for the Enrolment Day (Friday 1 September) and 3 days of practical skills training during the second week of Induction (Monday 11 Wednesday 13 September).
