Main duties of the job
As our Senior Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for providing a specialist and skilled Occupational Therapy service to our patients across our Inpatient, Outpatients, and Community Services.
Supporting the Head of Rehabilitation and Enablement Services you will support them in the development and advancement of services to our patients across the Island.

Overview of Role
Provide
an expert and innovative Occupational Therapy service to palliative care patients
focusing within the Inpatient Unit and out-patient department, working within
the Rehabilitation team at Mountbatten IOW.
Participate
in the continuing development of the Occupational Therapy services across the
Rehabilitation and Enablement team, including working with the wider team in
line with Mountbatten’s strategic plan. Hold service-wide responsibilities
according to skills and training, such as fire warden, moving and handling
trainer and first aid.
Key Tasks
To
perform advanced assessment of patients with complex and diverse palliative
care needs. To provide, develop and deliver individualised treatment
programmes, and to undertake these tasks as an autonomous practitioner.
Maintain a focus
on optimising patient’s functional and self-management abilities and enabling
them with what matters most to them, through tailored and appropriate
rehabilitation
To facilitate and promote a palliative
rehabilitation and enablement philosophy and approach across Mountbatten and other health and social care
providers.
Alongside colleagues, coordinate and develop the day-to-day
operation of Mountbatten’s rehabilitation Team
Act as an Occupational Therapy palliative care
resource; providing consultative advice, education, and support to members of
the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and Health and Social Care teams.
Provide moving and handling advice and support to employees,
volunteers, and patients’ relatives at Mountbatten.
Continually develop and share own knowledge and
expertise in the following areas:
- Management of staff
and volunteers
- Leadership
- Clinical specialisms
within palliative care
