Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of our dedicated team working in partnership with the Hywel Dda Community Children Nursing (CCNs), in the provision of valuable support for vulnerable children with complex clinical, medical & physical needs enabling them to remain living at home, while providing essential respite for their parents / carers to support continue their caring roles.
This service is delivered in line with our commitment to principles of empowerment, self-management, wellbeing, and recovery and ensuring compliance with internal and external quality standards inspection and regulation (including CIW).
As a Children's Clinical Support Worker, you will work closely with the team to provide 1:1 (occasionally 2:1) predominately overnight support in the home, and on occasion in residential respite settings.
Support provided includes support with personal care, nutrition and fluids, manual handling, as well as undertaking specialised tasks as agreed and after appropriate training, for example, administration of medication by specialist techniques and assistance with oxygen therapy. The service you provide focuses on promoting the wellbeing, rights, and independence of the individual.
Main duties of the job
All Adferiad Support Workers are given the qualifications, experience, and competencies commensurate with the levels of care they are expected to provide:
This includes supporting individuals if required with:
All aspects of personal care including tracheostomy, ventilation, PEG/NG feeding, and any other child specific clinical need.
Mobility and transfers.
Administration of prescribed oral, topical, or parenteral medication, including epilepsy rescue medication administration
Basic physiotherapy/occupational therapy.
Escort /Accompany individual to school.
Support with engagement with social activities including holidays away from the family home.
And:
Completion of detailed observations and reports in relation to individuals which can be shared with health professionals.
Working to a rolling shift pattern - rosters are created and managed to ensure continuity of support staff for individuals while minimising travel and promote good work/life balance for support staff.
About us
Four charities in Wales joined together on 1st April 2021 to become Adferiad Recovery, a new organisation which will provide support for vulnerable people in Wales and their families and carers. Adferiad Recovery will have a particular focus on people with mental health problems, substance misuse problems, and those with co-occurring and complex needs.
The merging charities are:
- Adferiad Recovery, based in South Wales, provides services for people with co-occurring mental health and substance misuse conditions and related issues
- CAIS, based in North Wales, provides substance misuse services, employment, mental health, and veterans services across Wales
- Hafal, based in South Wales, supports mental health service users, carers and other vulnerable groups across Wales
- WCADA, based in South Wales, provides substance misuse services in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend and the Public Prisons at Swansea, Cardiff, Usk and Prescoed.
CAIS, Hafal and WCADA had recently worked together to form Adferiad Recovery as a new charity. This enabled the charities to work together more closely, and the four have now merged into this new single charity.
