Job summary

The post holder will work as a part of the Children, Young People and Families Service representing Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind. Working part of a dedicated support service within the Children and Young Peoples Team. Youwill be required to deliver counselling to Children and young people, providing creative, flexible and time limited counselling providing advice and guidance to people accessing the project.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing evidence-based counselling to children and young people, including bereavement, anxiety and low mood, peer and family relationships etc.
  • Work within the boundaries of service delivery and support to meet the requirements of the service needs.
  • To create and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals, by providing advice and consultative support on emotional and mental health issues.
  • Responsible for safeguarding children and always promoting the welfare of children and young people and operating within local policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Counselling or psychotherapy qualification to diploma level or equivalent
  • Accredited or accreditable with a professional psychological therapy organisation, such as BACP or UKCP
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience of delivering recovery focused interventions, underpinned with a person-centred approach to promote client autonomy and independence
  • Experience of supporting young people that have experienced a bereavement or loss
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication
  • Able to write clear reports and letters
  • Experience of training and liaising with other professional groups

Desirable

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of using CBT techniques

Skills & Competencies

Essential

  • Full range of counselling skills and competencies
  • Ability to establish creative ways to enable children and young people to access and engage in therapeutic support
  • Well developed skills to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex or sensitive information to the child or young person, their families, carers and other professional colleagues
  • Skills to undertake risk assessments within scope of the service
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with children and young people
