Job summary

Would you like to work in a truly inter-disciplinary team and for an organisation with a focus on body based and integrative approaches?

We are looking for an experienced psychological therapist (e.g. psychotherapist, clinical psychologist, creative arts psychotherapist) with extensive therapeutic experience to work at senior therapist level within our therapy team.

Experience or an interest in developing and gaining accreditation in Theraplay or Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy would be important and are areas of training Family Futures will finance as part of continued professional development.

Family Futures offers high-quality supervision and professional development training. We also offer a nurturing environment for staff to work in as we recognise that this is a stressful area of work.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone:

  • who has experienceof working with children and families in a therapeutic setting, preferably in the field of fostering, SGO and adoption
  • who has an understanding of Family Futures Neuro Physiological Psychotherapy (NPP) approach to the treatment of developmentally traumatised children
  • who is parent-positive and child friendly
  • who wishes to develop their therapeutic skills in working with children, parents and families
  • who would enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

Responsible to:

Assessment and Therapy Services Manager or Clinical Specialist level therapist

Main tasks:

  • To take part in the Family Futures induction programme and the in-service programme for professional development if a new member of staff
  • To operate as an integrated member of the therapy team offering telephone advice or video conference, email support, consultations, assessments and treatment to children and their parents/carers referred to Family Futures including home visits and out of hours support
  • A senior therapist would key work between 10 15 cases (all at varying levels of intensity so that it may be that ultimately some these cases would have a minimal involvement) and would therefore be responsible for co-ordinating the service provision to those families
  • At senior therapist level there is care responsibility for complex and high risk cases which require consistent and carefully case management to manage the complexity and the level of risk
  • To hold budget responsibility for the cases key worked
  • To liaise with local authorities, health authorities and other agencies on behalf of Family Futures
  • To attend professionals meetings on behalf of Family Futures
  • To take responsibility for the compilation of reports and ensure that they are finished to a high standard
  • To compile comprehensive assessment and treatment reports and any other reports as required in connection to the children and their parents with whom they have been working
  • To write good quality session notes and keeping a telephone log. As well as to ensure that this is done within 48 hours of the session.
  • To maintain good and up to date computer records
  • To be efficient in managing case load and checking telephone messages, email messages as well as post and then to respond appropriately
  • To participate in the i-Adopt programme
  • To attend court, if required, as an expert witness
  • To have a teaching and tutoring role on courses and trainings run by Family Futures
  • To participate in research projects as well as the monitoring and evaluation of Family Futures services
  • To attend team meetings, supervision and consultation and participate fully as a member of the therapy team

The ideal candidate will have all or some of the following:

  • Experience of undertaking assessment of children and families with complex presentations
  • Experience of working with children and families in a therapeutic setting
  • Experience of working with children and families in the field of fostering and adoption
  • Experience of taking case responsibility for cases and leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of working with complex or developmental trauma
  • Experience of working with high degree of complexity.
  • Experience of co-ordinating and writing reports that include formulations of children and families presentation and recommendations for treatments
  • Experience of using the DDP or Theraplay models would be beneficial but not a requirement

Knowledge:

  • An understanding of contemporary adoption and fostering law and practice
  • An understanding of working therapeutically with families, children and adults
  • An understanding of the use of the creative arts in a therapeutic setting
