Job summary

15 hours per week, permanent, part time Therapies Assistant.

Do you have an interest in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Complementary Therapy? Would you like to join a team helping people achieve fulfilment and independence? It is a rewarding and varied role that will develop your skills and knowledge within a palliative care setting. It will also allow you to develop your practice, learn new skills and utilise your communication skills, whilst helping people manage life limiting illnesses.

We are looking to recruit a Therapies Assistant to join our well-established Therapies Team.

Main duties of the job

  • work as part of the Therapies Team, assisting with the delivery of therapy services to people with life-limiting illness
  • participate in and assist with facilitating groups run by our therapists
  • work as part of the Therapies team to ensure all assistive equipment is collected, maintained and cleaned, onsite and throughout the community
  • hold a current British driving licence and have the ability to drive hospice vans when required

We provide inpatient clinical services within a modern, personal & friendly 18-bedded unit, as well as Specialist Community Crisis Support Service, Hospice at Home Service & Specialist Day Therapy Service. We also have the hospice Pepperell Education Centre that has an excellent reputation for delivering high quality education programmes and study days.

JOB SUMMARY

  1. To work as part of the Therapies team, assisting with the delivery of therapy services to people with life-limiting illness who are supported by Saint Francis Hospice.
  2. To work with the Therapies Manager and other staff to assist with providing a comprehensive service to inpatients, outpatients and patients living in the community.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording
  2. To assist with home visits to assess individuals needs and deliver and fit equipment under the direction of the Therapists
  3. To assist with the maintenance, collection and cleaning of equipment
  4. To drive the hospice van to collect and deliver equipment within the community
  5. To assist with the provision of various Therapeutic Groups
  6. To ensure materials are stored in accordance with Health and Safety regulations (e.g. COSHH), ensuring store rooms are kept tidy and stock levels maintained
  7. To report any relevant information or observations relating to a patients condition to the Therapists
  8. To report any concerns about the provision of the Therapy Services to the Therapies Manager
  9. To maintain and develop skills and knowledge by participating in relevant internal and external training opportunities
  10. To attend all mandatory training in accordance with hospice policies
  11. Confer with the Therapies Manager to plan annual leave and study leave to ensure continuity of service
  12. To undertake projects and achieve objectives in agreement with the Therapies Manager during Appraisal

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITES

13. To participate in Appraisal in consultation with the Therapies Manager

14. To have an understanding of the importance of Multi-Professional team working and the ability to promote it within the organisation

15. To have an understanding and awareness of behaviours and interpersonal skills that are vital to effective team working and practice them at all times

16. To take responsibility for own professional and personal development which will be monitored in Supervision sessions and in Appraisal.
