Beacon are currently recruiting experienced and skilled Children & Young People counsellors to join our expanding organisation.

Main duties of the job
Main Objectives of Post
To provide a confidential and effective counselling service for children and young people in schools or elsewhere
When working in a school to work as Beacon’s main representative in the particular school
When working in a school to work with the YPS Coordinator in maintaining a strong relationship with the school(s) in which you work
To work with the manager, supervisor, and school’s counselling team to assist in the development of Beacon’s school’s counselling service
To work flexibly and cover additional schools at different locations as they become available.

Job responsibilities
Working with Children and Young People:To work with children and young people aged as a counsellor, providing an effective therapeutic relationship
- To manage your caseload through working with your supervisor
- To manage a waiting list
- To make appropriate referrals as and when they are needed, in consultation with young people.
- To establish and maintain excellent working relationships with key staff in schools and other partnership organisations, liaising, as appropriate, within BACP confidentiality guidelines
School Liaison:
- Be an ambassador of Beacon in the school and community
Quality:
- To work to a high professional standard and within the BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- To maintain all appropriate records of your work
- To ensure all monitoring and evaluation data is completed, and assist in the development of more effective methods for monitoring and evaluation
- To attend both individual and group supervision at least monthly and monitor your need for additional supervision through discussion with your supervisor
- You are responsible for ensuring your supervision meets the requirements of the BACP Ethical Framework
- To report any practice that you consider below the ethical standards of the BACP using Beacon’s Whistleblowing procedures
- To complete all internal and external safeguarding training as required and ensure you maintain your knowledge through regular updates
- To ensure that you are familiar with, understand, and work within all Beacon’s policies and procedures as they relate to your work
- To ensure that you have an enhanced DBS check at Beacon that is dated within the last 3 years

Qualifications
Essential
- Counselling/psychotherapy Diploma (minimum)
- Minimum 2 years experience as a counsellor post-qualification
- Experience of working with young people as a counsellor (or significant experience of working with young people in a similar capacity)
- Minimum 300 hours supervised counselling practice (evidence of hours will required at interview which will be checked with your supervisor)
Desirable
- A recognised play therapy qualification
- BACP/UKCP accredited/ registered or equivalent
- A recognised Staff Supervision qualification
- CBT training/ qualification
- Additional therapy skills e.g. creative therapies
Experience
Essential
- Awareness of specific issues affecting young people particularly in a school setting
- Awareness of boundary issues as they apply to working with young people
- Specialist knowledge of a range of skills and approaches underpinned by theory
- Excellent communication skills with a wide range of people and ages
- Able to build effective working relationships with school staff at all levels
- Assessment skills
- IT skills (Word, Excel, email)
