About Us

Wheatfields hospice is one of seven Sue Ryder hospices. It provides specialist palliative care to patients in the hospice and community via a 16-bed inpatient service and a multi-professional community team including a wellbeing and therapy service.

We are looking to employ an enthusiastic, compassionate and experienced Specialty doctor with a passion for Palliative medicine to join our Consultant-led multidisciplinary team at Sue Ryder, Wheatfields Hospice

About the job

Sue Ryders Specialty Doctors play a vital role in our Hospices, providing essential support to patients, families, and the broader care team. Their work ensures that patients receive compassionate, hands-on care tailored to their physical, emotional, and personal needs, often in their most vulnerable moments.

- Responsible for addressing the specialist palliative care needs of patients and families presenting to the hospice teams and liaising outside of Sue Ryder with the local hospitals and primary care teams.

- First-on on-call commitment. Current frequency 1 in 5 week nights and weekends working from home.

- In-patient roles carry out medical assessment of new patients, management of in-patients, and support of families.

- Community roles review, advice and support for patients and families patients may be seen as out-patients, or in their own homes and as a lone worker or in tandem with a clinical nurse specialist.

- Participation in clinical governance, including audit, research and quality improvement activities.

  • - Have completed the equivalent of 4 years of full time post-graduate training, at least 2 of which are in a related specialty.
