Chief Operating Officer

37.5 hours per week
120,000 - 135,000 GBP per annum
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, with accountability to the Board of Trustees, the Chief Operating Officer will be part of the Sue Ryder Executive Leadership Team and will contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Charity including the development of income generating strategies and developing ongoing and sustainable supporter engagement.
They will be directly responsible for leading the organisations healthcare operations and ensuring the continued provision of high quality services, and their ongoing development, to meet the evolving needs of the people we support and the increasing demand. This will include the ongoing review of existing services, structures and costs to achieve business efficiencies and productivity gains, to meet the ambitious organisational vision and strategy with the aim of delivering additional services in new and innovative ways.
The COO will work closely with the CFO to monitor and ensure the financial strength of the healthcare business including the commercial performance of existing services and the viability of proposed developments. In addition to ensuring delivery against existing NHS contracts, they will use their knowledge and understanding of healthcare commissioning frameworks, and the wider UK healthcare infrastructure to maximise opportunities and grow reach to achieve the goal of a national service provision.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Operating Officer will lead the Organisation's Health operations, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective services that are innovative and responsive to the needs of beneficiaries. Specifically they will
- Plan, direct, and oversee development of the Health strategy ensuring achievement of organisation goals.
- Provide dynamic quality leadership to the Health directorate
- Deliver sustainable service growth with high quality care
- Deliver against Health budget targets by effective direction, leadership and management of the Palliative and Bereavement operations
- Work collaboratively with Chief Nursing Officer and Medical Director and promote a high quality of care culture
- Work with the Chief Finance Officer, Chief People and Culture Officer and Chief Commercial Officer to create a strategic and collaborative approach to organisational growth.
- Work with the CFO to develop and agree profitability and growth targets. Contribute to maintaining the financial strength of the organisation through the delivery of key contracts with the NHS and other organisations
