This post is a locum to cover for maternity leave. It is an ideal opportunity for a doctor with skills in, or a strong interest in palliative care. The post will provide excellent experience, skills and training for anyone interested in palliative care. It would suit someone considering a career in palliative medicine or building excellence in end of life care into their general practice portfolio.

Main duties of the job
The post holder would work in both the hospice inpatient unit with opportunities to develop skills in community and outpatient palliative care. The post holder will contribute to the 7 day shift working, non-resident 1 in 5 medical first on-call rota with days off in lieu of days worked. Prior experience in palliative care is desirable, but not essential. Please see the Job Description and Person Specification for more details.

St Lukes Hospice is an innovative multi-disciplinary centre, providing palliative care services for Harrow and North Brent, including a 12 bed in-patient unit, day services, therapies, bereavement services, outpatient clinic and community services including 24 hours advice and guidance. You will be joining a medical team with 3 consultants, clinical fellow and a GP trainee on rotation.

Job responsibilities
This post is suitable for any doctor with at least 1 year post registration experience and
an interest in working in palliative care either with a view to progression to further
training in palliative care or gaining experience to take into general practice, oncology
or another suitable branch of medicine.
The post is developed and monitored to seek and optimise the needs of the
patients, post holder and the organisation.
The post is expected to offer the post holder good, varied experience and
teaching to enable them to provide the best palliative care for their patients, both
in the inpatient and community settings.
The post holder (in conjunction with the ST1/2 and 2nd clinical fellow) will
provide the daily (approx. 0900 1700) holistic medical care to any hospice
patient. This will include up to twelve inpatients, patients at home supported by
community services and/or outpatients or any patients requiring medical advice
in the day hospice (Wellbeing Centre).
- The post holder will play their part in delivering a holistic approach to patient
centered care, which is of an excellent standard and meets the need of the
individual patient.
The post holder will perform their duties according to the philosophy of the
hospice. Acting at all times to safeguard the interests of individual patients and
their families.
To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team respecting and encouraging
all individuals to work within their professional and personal capabilities to
deliver safe and high quality care to patients.
- To participate in the medical shift rota to provide 7 day care (1 in 5). There is a
day of in lieu during the week before or week after for all weekend days worked
