Job summary

We are recruiting for aOccupational Therapistwithin theChildren and Young People Disability Service (CYPDS)in Windsor and Maidenhead. This multi-professional service supports children and young people aged 0-25 withspecial educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will work in close partnership with families to undertake assessments in relation to occupational therapy needs in the home setting.

Main duties of the job

  • Work in close partnership with families to undertake assessments in relation to occupational therapy needs in thehome setting.
  • To provide high quality assessments within the statutory responsibilities of Children and Families Act 2014, ChildrenAct 1989 and 2004 and the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and 1986.
  • Have led responsibility for all aspects of Occupational Therapy (OT) provision within CYPDS which will include
  • managing statutory OT assessments in the home environment.
  • Manage a varied complexity caseload at differing stages of intervention,
  • Triage all new referrals for OT assessment prioritising according to need and manage a caseload that covers adviceand guidance, provision of equipment or home adaptations.
  • Lead on provision and purchasing of OT equipment and resources to meet assessed needs. Manage resources withina set budget allocation following funding approval with follow up reviews for use.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all processes relating to OT service provision within the service are working wellwithout unnecessary bureaucracy and delays for families. Review all such processes regularly to ensure integratedpractice.

About the Role

As an Occupational Therapist, you will work directly with families to assess and address the occupational therapy needs of children and young people in their home environments.

Referrals may include:

  • Hospital discharge planning

  • Housing-related issues and adaptations requiring Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) funding

  • Provision of equipment (e.g., seating, bath aids)

  • Safety and manual handling assessments

You will also contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reports and provide general occupational therapy assessments as needed.

Your work will focus on identifying and recommending equipment or environmental adaptations to support independence. This includes sourcing from local equipment stores or specialist providers and guiding families through DFG application processes when building adaptations are required.

  • Degree-level qualification in Occupational Therapy

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. social work, leadership and management)

Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience working with children and young people with SEND and their families

  • Experience working with DFG teams and housing services

  • Ability to assess the clinical and environmental needs of children aged 018 years

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation related to disabled children and young people

  • Experience of multi-agency working, including collaboration with schools, health professionals, and housing teams

  • Awareness and understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice
