Job summary

Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service (LMWS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our team. As part of a collaborative partnership including Community Links, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and other key stakeholders, we deliver patient-focused and evidence-based mental health support to individuals with Common Mental Health Disorders in accordance with the National IAPT Programme.

Main duties of the job

  • Developing and supporting the PWP service provision within Leeds IAPT.
  • Providing high-volume evidence-based interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
  • Developing, supporting, and providing training on innovative practices to qualified and trainee PWPs, encompassing face-to-face clinical work, screening hub roles, and group sessions.
  • Conducting significant clinical/case management supervision, overseeing qualified and trainee PWPs under the leadership of the Service Manager.
  • Coordinate the PWP function of the Screening hub, ensuring its smooth operation and the provision of Duty worker shifts on a rota basis.

The service is delivered as a partnership of Community Links. Together we provide a range of different therapies and mental health support at venues throughout the city.

The service operates a stepped care system, providing evidence based N.I.C.E. Guidance interventions appropriate for the clients clinical presentation. Theseinclude Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Guided Self Help, Psycho-Educational Classes, CBT Interpersonal Therapy, EMDR, Counselling for Depression and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy.

The post holder will develop and support the PWP service provision within Leeds IAPT. The post holder will continue to provide high volume evidence based interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression and will be responsible for developing, supporting and providing training on innovative practice to qualified and trainee PWPs in all areas of their work including face to face clinical work, screening hub role and classes/groups.

The post holder will also carry out significant clinical/case management supervision and supervise and/or line manage qualified and trainee PWPs under the leadership of Service Manager. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the PWP function of the Screening hub, ensuring the smooth running of this function, including the provision of Duty worker shifts on a rota basis.

Main tasks:

To identify and oversee the development of best practice within the low intensity service, leading, co-coordinating resources and protocols within the service, including working with the Operational Managers to identify and manage service gaps or obstacles.

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service. Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.

Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the selfmanagement of their recovery. Ensure support undertaken is meaningful, respectful, promotes self-determination and in line with the individuals goals.

Undertake patient centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

To work with managers and colleagues to identify, manage and minimise risks within the overall Leeds IAPT and Community Links risk management frameworks.

Provide effective clinical supervision for trained and trainee PWPs through both individual case management supervision and via the role of duty worker shifts.

Identify learning and development needs across the team of PWPs and develop routes for CPD in coordination with the Consortium Leadership Team.

Provide clinical leadership for the consortium PWPs i.e as duty worker on the Screening hub, in facilitator role in clinical skills group supervision and in the development and delivery of other training and service development events.

Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high volume lowintensity psychological treatments. This may include guided selfhelp, psycho-educational classes, computerised CBT, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.

To ensure that client records and other information systems are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.

Essential

  • Experience of working in a stepped care setting with one years or more of post PWP qualification experience within an IAPT service.
  • Experience of working in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
  • Experience of mental health either as service user, carer, worker or volunteer.

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering effective case management and/or clinical supervision.
  • Experience of supporting service development and the ability to coordinate service delivery.
  • Experience of community or development work.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Certificate in evidence based psychological treatments (IAPT Pathways) or equivalent.
  • Supervision training in IAPT (LI) pathways from an accredited university (or nearing completion of course).

Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge and ability to deliver High Volume Low Intensity evidenced based interventions in groups or to individuals referred to the service in line with IAPT prescribed protocols.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the value of evidence based psychological therapies and how this relates to this post.
