Job summary
As Head of Clinical Operations at St John Ambulance, you will be responsible for assisting the Medical Director in developing, leading, delivering and maintaining the charity's clinical strategic direction in relation to event cover and ambulance operations.
Key to this role is the development of clinical supervision and leadership at all levels within the clinical communities of our people. This will require interaction with both the Events team and the Community and Ambulance Support Directorate. There will also be the necessity to oversee the development and introduction of new allied health professionals and associated skill sets.
The role requires a high level of clinical credibility and the post holder should be regarded as one of the lead clinicians and senior clinical leaders within the organisation. There will be an expectation for the post holder to be clinical 1 day a week.
Main duties of the job
Champion the provision of high quality services to provide excellent patient care with patients at the core of all
activities by providing Clinical leadership, advice, support and guidance across St John Ambulance
Support the Medical Director to provide effective clinical leadership using wide ranging, highly specialist, professional,
managerial knowledge, skills and experience in all areas of service provision
Work both with internal and external stakeholders, they will be responsible for ensuring the organisation delivers the
highest standard of clinical care in line with national and local standards
Assist the development of education related issues to ensure the delivery of the skills required to meet the charity's
clinical strategy.
Establish expert practice, providing inspiration and act as a role model in St John, demonstrating the highest degree of
personal professional autonomy, showing commitment to development and lifelong learning.
Provide leadership, coaching and personal skills to motivate and inspire colleagues to come up with innovative ideas to
address issues for them and their patients whilst promoting a positive culture within the organisation
Use the PDSA system to ensure that services designed are robust and demonstrate step changes in clinical quality.
Ensure that best clinical supervision and clinical leadership practice from across the NHS is embedded within St John

- Qualified as an allied health professional
- Currently registered on the HCPC or NMC

- Has experience of building effective cross functional working relationships to drive the organisational agenda
- Has experience of working within and developing productive internal and external stakeholder
