Team Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner

Job summary

Working Pattern: 37.5 Hours Per Week, across 7 days a week as service required. (Unsocial hours enhancements apply to clinical sessions in addition to the contracted hours and if those clinical sessions are then undertaken during unsocial hours)

This clinician will work within the Urgent Treatment Centre at West Middlesex University Hospital and will be responsible for the coordination and day-to-day running of the UTC.

They will be responsible for ensuring that a high level of service is delivered within agreed resources.

Main duties of the job

The Team Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for the line management and appraisal of Nurses & ENPs within the department.

The Team Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner will identify pressures in the UTC and take the appropriate actions and steps to promote patient flow and ensure overall patient safety in conjunction with operational service staff. They will liaise with the Emergency Department when required to signpost UTC attendees requiring ED treatment.

The Team Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner will also be responsible for supporting the rota alongside the rota team and providing staff updates to the Service Manager when required.

Professional/Clinical:

Be available to give expert clinical advice and leadership to staff as required.

To establish effective working relations with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote good communication and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

To always exercise professional accountability in accordance with NMC code of conduct.

Ensure UTC policies and procedures are up-to-date and that all staff comply to agreed policies and maintain best practice.

To access diagnostics including blood, ECGs and X-Rays.

Participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents and complaints; implement corrective action where necessary in consultation with the Service Manager and Head of Clinical Services.

Perform specialist independent assessment of patients' needs, diagnose where appropriate, plan, implement and evaluate clinical treatment and care using advanced clinical knowledge and skills.

Support the Service Manager to maintain accurate and timely sickness and absence information on a weekly and monthly basis, taking action to reduce sickness and absence where and when appropriate for those staff the role is responsible for.

To manage conflict promptly and effectively, supporting and promoting effective working relationships within the multidisciplinary team and initiating and evaluating any action plans.

Ensure the maintenance of a safe working environment and that all areas have a named Health and Safety representative.

To ensure that COSHH and Infection Control policies are implemented and that every effort is made to identify and minimise potential risks/hazards.

Identify clinical issues and incidents within the service that reduce the quality of care within the specialist service bringing any issues to the attention of service management team on site.

Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, explore new ideas and introduce positive evidence-based change in line with local and national initiatives.

To work with the Operational Leads and Practice Development staff and Emergency Nurse Practitioners to implement and audit benchmarking processes, quality road maps, making improvement as required.

To be responsible with operational staff for carrying out risk assessments according to LCW Clinical Governance/Clinical risk strategies.

To be responsible for the implementation of safe working practice as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure the staff in UTC are maintaining accurate and contemporaneous training records.

To undertake all clinical procedures in accordance with LCW policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood. Policies and procedures must be research based and adhered to by all staff, within own management responsibility, whilst being constantly monitored and reviewed.

To be responsible for overseeing that all Emergency Nurse Practitioners ensure the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.

To ensure accurate and comprehensive Emergency Nurse Practitioner records, in all formats, are maintained using appropriate documentation.

Operational Management

To be responsible for the day-to-day effective and efficient management of ENPs, and equipment within the department.

Act as a role model for staffing working in the UTC

Manage and support the smooth and safe running of the service and any acute emergencies.

Work closely with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager and Emergency Nurse Practitioners to support the orientation and induction of staff.

Support systems of induction, staff appraisals daily to allow for appropriate developmental activities.

To investigate accidents, incidents and complaints, implementing corrective actions where necessary, in accordance with LCW Policies.

Act as liaison with consultants, operational managers and administrative staff daily directing as appropriate to the required individuals and/or resource.

Responsible for actively planning and scheduling duty rotas, annual leave and the use of bank staff in association with the Service Manager and Emergency Nurse Practitioners to ensure effective and flexible use of resources.

To be responsible for monitoring absences and the use of temporary staff, promoting the use of appropriate effective and flexible use of resources within UTCs.

Participate in return-to-work interviews with ENP staff

Accountable for the safe ordering, receipt, storage and administration of drugs.

To be responsible for ensuring confidentiality and safekeeping of patient records.

To act as Lead Fire Marshall and ensure that the relevant audits are completed

To ensure that there are effective communication systems in place to allow staff to keep abreast of developments within the organisation.

To arrange, lead, record and communicate meetings relevant to the department.

Participate in recruitment and selection of staff in consultation with the Head of Clinical Services.

Advise other health professional colleagues as requested and utilise the skills and knowledge of his/her clinical specialty in acting as point of reference for colleagues.

Always Act as an ambassador for London Central & West Unscheduled Care Collaborative to ensure that professional standards are maintained in the provision of London Central & West Unscheduled Care Collaboratives clinical service.

Attend London Central & West Unscheduled Care Collaborative clinical team meetings.

Education & Audit:
