Job summary

This is an opportunity to join a passionate, creative MHST with excellent school engagement placed within a third-sector service who place young people and families at the heart of everything we do. Our base is in central Bromley and we come together in the office one day per week to ensure everyone feels connected and supported with both their work and their wellbeing.

The Wellbeing Practitioner post is a diverse role which involves delivering evidenced-based interventions for mild-moderate mental health difficulties, liaising with schools and partner agencies, and facilitating psychoeducational events. In addition to managing your own caseload of clients, you will act as the Bromley Y link for a number of primary and secondary schools to provide consultation, signposting and support development of bespoke Whole School Approaches to mental health in line with schools individual needs.

The right person will be hard-working and enthusiastic with the ability to work flexibly and creatively with young people, parents/carers and school staff to achieve their goals. They will enjoy collaborating with colleagues and feel confident sharing ideas and seeking solutions. They will look forward to new challenges and be keen to develop their professional skill set.

Main duties of the job

The post represents an opportunity for a qualified practitioner, who is committed to the principles of CYP IAPT and THRIVE, to further their career. In addition to managing their own caseload, the post holder will provide advice and support to children, young people and their families through workshops and small groups to provide them with information on how to maintain their emotional wellbeing.

The post-holder will work closely with schools in Bromley borough to support delivery of the three core functions of Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs):

  • Evidence-based interventions for mild-moderate mental health issues
  • Supporting introduction or development of whole school approaches to mental health and wellbeing
  • Providing timely advice to school and college staff and liaising with external specialist services to help children and young people to get the right support.

Work will be carried out digitally from home, as well as in schools and some community settings to ensure in-reach to young people who would not normally access services.

The post-holder will work with young people from diverse backgrounds and should be committed to diversity and ensuring access to services for all. The post holder must be prepared to be flexible in their working arrangements to ensure that all children and young people can access support at a time which suits their needs. The other aspect of this work will be developing workshops and other online resources.

Bromley Y are a long-established charity which runs the Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service for Children and Young People in Bromley. We are a supportive, inclusive, collaborative organisation with an opportunity for an experienced mental health practitioner, counsellor or equivalent to join our Mental Health Support Teams on a full-time contract. Bromley Y is organised around the needs-led iThrive Model and operates an Integrated Single Point of Access with our partners in CAMHS to ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time. Our MHSTs are well-established (2x Trailblazer, 1x Wave 6) and work together to support primary and secondary schools across Bromley borough.

The service has a diverse offer for young people and families, with evidence-based 1:1 and group interventions, workshops, webinars, mentoring, social prescribing and parent-support. We champion the voices of young people, actively seeking feedback from clients, facilitating user participation groups and empowering our Youth Ambassador to lead on community outreach.

MAIN DUTIES

To provide an evidenced based service for children and young people as part of early identification and intervention for children and young people with emotional and mental health needs.

To provide advice, support and knowledge of appropriate resources for the emotional wellbeing of children and their families.

To take responsibility for leading on and liaising with a number of primary and secondary schools, providing consultation and planning interventions through regular Support and Advice Meetings with School Mental Health Leads and other relevant pastoral staff.

To keep up to date with local service offer provision in the locality and connections with suitable services for a range of diverse needs, including SEND.

To support development and delivery of psychoeducational workshops, webinars and groups for young people, parents/carers and school staff.

To work across agencies to develop a co-ordinated response to children and young people's mental health needs.

To work alongside others to demonstrate knowledge and skills to plan and critically evaluate the implementation of the early intervention role to meet the mental health needs of children and young people.

PRACTICE RESPONSIBILITIES

To deliver evidence based therapeutic interventions for low to moderate difficulties with a caseload of children and families, to maintain their professional qualification, keeping abreast of current training and practice in such areas.

Ensure information sharing protocols are conducted according to GDPR compliance and organisational policy.

To provide support and guidance to others, particularly schools with the aim of improving skills, knowledge, awareness and facilitating reflective practice.

Undertake assessments with young people and parents which identify areas where the young person/ parent wishes to see change and/or recovery.

To identify, monitor and manage risk to self or others in every contact with a client and follow organisational and local procedures for safeguarding.

Manage own workload through both clinical practice supervision and managerial supervision.

To work collaboratively with other teams within Bromley Y to ensure children, young people and families needs remain at the core of our work, in line with the THRIVE model.

To contribute to the evaluation of all areas of service delivery, client and professional satisfaction and the impact of interventions.

To adopt a balanced age-appropriate approach in empowering young people in promoting their individual voice and needs which supports the rights of the child and that supports parent and carers in their role.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

To ensure knowledge and skills are continuously developed and maintained at a high level of competence.

To identify training needs through supervision and personal development plans.

To take responsibility in fulfilling CPD requirements for professional registration requirements and maintenance

To support the design and deliver training services/workshops and to take part in their evaluation.

  • Professional qualification, with evidence of continuing professional development, in a field relevant to child and adolescent mental health e.g. Counselling, Psychotherapy, Creative Arts, CBT, CYP IAPT inc EMHP and CWP.
  • Enhanced DBS.
  • Professional Registration (one of the following): BACP, UKCP, NCP, HCPC, GMC, NMC. (For EMHPs/CWPs this may be in progress).
